Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rashad Sokoudjou! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, brian tomas! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No joy there for tomas, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sokoudjou shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Sokoudjou trying to pass the guard but tomas defending well. Sokoudjou sitting and controlling from the half guard. Sokoudjou is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
tomas pushes Sokoudjou off looking to stand but Sokoudjou dives back in and keeps control.
Sokoudjou passes the guard and advances to mount! Sokoudjou is trying to take his opponent's back.
That's one minute gone in the round. tomas wants to try and get back to his feet. Sokoudjou landing shots from mount. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Sokoudjou looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. tomas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sokoudjou. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. tomas is trying to get to the ropes to help him get back to his feet.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. tomas is squirming around, avoiding Sokoudjou's attempts to control the action. Sokoudjou won't let tomas get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Sokoudjou postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. tomas looks a forlorn figure.
Sokoudjou trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sokoudjou looking for a guillotine from mount but tomas is having none of it. tomas is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Sokoudjou has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! tomas is forced to tap!
