Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Paavo Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Ivan Ovechkin!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Smith or perhaps it was just good defense by Ovechkin which made him look bad.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ovechkin sprawls well. Ovechkin wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.
Ovechkin ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Ovechkin throws a jab when Smith was well out of range.
Smith gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ovechkin to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Ovechkin wants to get up but he can't break Smith's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Ovechkin from controlling successfully.
Ovechkin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ovechkin passes Smith's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Smith blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ovechkin.
Ovechkin trying to mount his opponent but Smith defends it.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Ovechkin throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ovechkin drops Smith with a beautiful combination! Smith stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Ovechkin is looking for the KO!
Smith is rocked!
It looks like Paavo Smith has been cut.
Smith drops his hands momentarily. Ovechkin doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Smith staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Smith doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ivan Ovechkin!
