Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jesus Martinez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jonathan Sparks! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Eddie Farnsworth and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sparks jabs at Martinez's body. Martinez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sparks looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Sparks gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Sparks tries to roll over but Martinez keeps him under control. Sparks on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Martinez prevents Sparks from improving his position. Nice strikes from Martinez there. Martinez has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Martinez working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sparks wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Martinez prevents Sparks from getting the reversal. Sparks is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Martinez wants to control the pace but Sparks is squirming around nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sparks is in all sorts of trouble here.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Martinez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Martinez trying to mount his opponent but Sparks defends it. Martinez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Sparks is pressing down on Martinez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Martinez throwing strikes but missing. Martinez won't allow Sparks to get back to his feet. Sparks looking for a triangle here. Martinez is fighting it but it looks tight! Sparks pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Martinez is tapping out - this one is all over!
