PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carl Ashmod (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hammer shoots in but Ashmod avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Hammer counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Hammer gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Ashmod postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hammer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ashmod, into his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hammer wants to pass the guard but Ashmod is keeping the position.

Hammer looking to sit in guard and control but Ashmod gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Ashmod slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Hammer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ashmod can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Ashmod has gone for a leg lock! Hammer slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ashmod's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ashmod controls Hammer momentarily but Hammer frees himself.

Ashmod working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hammer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hammer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ashmod changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hammer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
