Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Smart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Basheer Saleh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smart comes into the arena with Billy Talent - Red Flag blaring out of the sound system. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Smart! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Basheer Saleh! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Saleh shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smart defends it nicely. Smart takes a swing at Saleh's ribcage but misses. Saleh ducks under a wild hook from Smart. Smart lands a nice leg kick that just misses Saleh's sensitive parts. Smart misses with a series of wild punches.
Smart throws a right hand that Saleh ducks under and follows up with a left that Saleh also avoids with ease. Saleh slips a jab and a cross from Smart.
Saleh dives in and grabs Smart's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smart pushes down on Saleh's head and hops out. Smart thows a body shot but no joy. Smart takes a swing at Saleh's ribcage but misses. Smart takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Saleh. Paul Smart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Basheer Saleh. Saleh dives in and grabs Smart's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smart pushes down on Saleh's head and hops out.

It looks like Basheer Saleh has been cut. Smart fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Saleh. Smart stuffs the takedown attempt from Saleh. Saleh gets slowly back to his feet. Smart tries a head kick but it misses.
Smart looks to score with a jab to the body but Saleh is just out of range. Smart lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Saleh looks gassed! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Smart fails to land with a series of punches.

Saleh fails with a takedown attempt. Saleh feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Saleh trying to control the position from guard on top but Smart is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Saleh shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Saleh showed some decent athleticism there. Smart tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Saleh manages to move to mount!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Saleh stops Smart from getting back to his feet.

Smart wants to get back to his feet. Saleh seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Smart does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Saleh is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Smart has managed to free his arm - good work. Saleh is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Saleh displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Saleh. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Saleh changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Smart tries to avoid it but Saleh manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Smart to the ground. Smart escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Paul Smart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Basheer Saleh. Saleh prevents Smart from getting back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Smart manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Saleh fails in his attempt to clinch. Smart throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Saleh stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Saleh throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Smart misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Smart uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Paul Smart is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Saleh fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Smart avoids it really well and circles away. A left and a right from Smart both land. Nice combination.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Saleh takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Smart gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Saleh to score an easy takedown into full guard. Smart wants to stand up but Saleh is controlling him. Smart pushes Saleh off and gets back to his feet.
Basheer Saleh has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Saleh shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Smart napping and manages to drive through into side control! Smart is trying to get back to his feet. Smart taking a bit of punishment here - Saleh scoring with strikes.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Paul Smart. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smart, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
