PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Maik Murmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Malcolm X (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Murmann comes to the cage accompanied by Nur ein Wort. Malcolm X is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maik Murmann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Malcolm X!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
X displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Malcolm X seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Murmann looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
X looks to land a combination. Murmann sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Murmann gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows X to score an easy takedown into full guard.
X would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

X stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Murmann could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

X tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

X scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
X lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
X has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Murmann is proving hard to escape from.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as X accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
X throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Murmann works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Murmann is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and X defends well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
X lands a front kick.

X moves into the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, X creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

X escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Murmann misses with a takedown attempt
and X counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

X lands with a kick to the temple. Murmann shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
X connects with a high kick.

Murmann gets caught flat footed, as X shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
X works over Murmann with some ground and pound from guard.
X is looking to stand up but Murmann won't let him.

Murmann has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but X can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Murmann escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. X gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Malcolm X dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Murmann shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts X as he jumps to the side.
X looks to land a combination. Murmann sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

X feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
X really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Murmann. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Murmann is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and X defends well.

Murmann isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. X stacks Murmann on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by X!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

X changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Murmann looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

X scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
X's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and X duly obliges.

X closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - X lands in his opponent's guard.

Murmann wants to sweep but no luck.

Murmann is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Malcolm X showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

X takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Malcolm X comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well X has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
