The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kirby thuds his right hand into St Clair's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.


It looks like John St Clair has been cut.
Kirby looks to throw the jab but St Clair is out of range.

St Clair closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kirby did well to prevent St Clair getting side control.

St Clair is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kirby is surviving well by controlling St Clair's body position as best he can.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, St Clair cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

St Clair can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kirby is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kirby scores with a sloppy right hand. St Clair should have avoided that one.

St Clair looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
St Clair seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

St Clair is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Kirby has managed to free his arm - good work.

St Clair wants to stand up but Kirby has a hold of him and won't allow it.
John St Clair is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kirby is not content to let St Clair control the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A right-left combo lands from Kirby.

St Clair takes a jab right on the kisser.
St Clair moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Kirby shoots and misses

and St Clair decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kirby's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kirby wants to sweep here but St Clair controlling him for the moment.
St Clair won't allow Kirby to get back to his feet.
Kirby can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as St Clair controls the pace.
Jon Kirby has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
