Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Chase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ranma Saotome (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chase comes to the cage accompanied by Bobcaygeon. Ranma Saotome is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chase slaps away a takedown attempt from Saotome, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Saotome closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chase did well to prevent Saotome getting side control.

Saotome seems to be working for a kimura but Chase defends the submission attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Saotome is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Chase has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Chase is in close to Saotome's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Saotome looking for a sweep. Not yet Saotome, not yet.

Saotome working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chase doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chase manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Saotome is working an open guard so Chase takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Chase connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

A head kick lands from Chase that sends Saotome to the canvas. Saotome tries to scramble back to his feet but Chase brings him back down into side control.

Saotome is rocked!

It looks like Ranma Saotome has been cut.
Saotome is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Saotome is still in real trouble! Can Chase finish him?

Saotome takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Saotome seems to have recovered his senses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Saotome closes the distance and clinches up with Chase, looking for a takedown. Saotome pushes Chase against the cage but Chase circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Chase throws a sloppy head kick and Saotome moves out of range easily.

A jab-cross combination lands for Chase and sends Saotome crashing to the mat! Chase follows him down to the mat - Saotome regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

Chase is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Chase looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Saotome with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
