PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Junior Batina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derek Berry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Batina comes to the cage accompanied by Venemous. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Derek Berry was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Berry tries to close the distance and clinch but Batina swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Berry throws a nice looking combination but Batina bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Berry tries to clinch up but Batina circles away and keeps his distance. Batina feints and as Berry raises his hands in defense, Batina changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Batina won't allow Berry to get back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Batina working some strikes from top position. Berry really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Batina. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Berry is looking to stand up but Batina isn't so interested in that idea. Batina drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Berry manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Batina has Berry in his guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Berry accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Berry must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Berry stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Batina has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Berry manages to get his head free but now Batina has transitioned to an armbar! Berry grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Batina! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Junior Batina!
