PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabriel Prak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Prak is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Cant be touched. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva closes the distance and clinches up with Prak, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes Prak against the cage but Prak circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Silva swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Prak misses with a few strikes there.
Silva slaps away a takedown attempt from Prak, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Prak looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Prak lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Silva circles away quickly and effectively.
Silva shoots in for a double leg but Prak sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Prak shoots in but no luck this time.
Prak fails with the takedown

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Jose Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel Prak.
Silva uses his free foot to push down on Prak's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Prak.

Silva is working for a guillotine from mount but Prak frees his head quite easily.

Silva looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Silva moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Prak has worked his arm free - good work by Prak!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Prak is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Prak changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Silva fights it off and pushes away nicely.

so Silva counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Silva won't allow Prak to get back to his feet.

Prak is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Prak lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Prak.

Prak shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

Silva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Silva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Prak pushes Silva away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Silva gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Silva counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Prak's guard now.

Silva drops back looking for a leg! Prak is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Prak manages to kick Silva off! Silva jumps back into Prak's guard.

Silva has gone for a leg lock! Prak slips out almost immediately though and dives into Silva's guard.
Prak would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Prak must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Prak lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Silva backs up against the cage.
Prak lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Silva slaps away a takedown attempt from Prak, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Silva drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Silva sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Prak's guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jose Silva will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Gabriel Prak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silva has hold of Prak's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Prak manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Prak moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Silva, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
