PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Karl Afflis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Kuklinski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kuklinski has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Karl Afflis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Kuklinski!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kuklinski gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Afflis to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Afflis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Kuklinski shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Afflis counters with a head kick. That will keep Kuklinski thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Afflis clinches with his opponent.
Afflis has Kuklinski pushed against the cage.

Afflis drags the fight down to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Afflis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Afflis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kuklinski thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Kuklinski won't allow Afflis to get back to his feet.

Kuklinski is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Afflis is looking to stand up but Kuklinski isn't so interested in that idea.

Afflis tries to strike from the bottom.

Afflis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kuklinski doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kuklinski manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Afflis is controlling Kuklinski's posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Afflis shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kuklinski manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Afflis stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Afflis gets the takedown into side control.
Afflis works to advance to full mount. Kuklinski defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

BOOM! Afflis connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Afflis goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Kuklinski is on top in guard.

Kuklinski thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Kuklinski drops back, looking for a kneebar! Afflis looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Afflis looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Afflis!

Afflis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kuklinski knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Afflis stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kuklinski gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Afflis counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Kuklinski has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Afflis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kuklinski is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Afflis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Afflis thows a big elbow that misses.
Afflis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Afflis wants to control from the top but Kuklinski keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Afflis counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Afflis.

Afflis has hold of one of Kuklinski's legs. Kuklinski is fighting the takedown attempt but Afflis gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Afflis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Afflis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kuklinski on the ground.

Kuklinski escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Afflis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kuklinski has momentary wrist control but Afflis slips an elbow through the middle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Afflis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Afflis scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Afflis moves into the clinch.

Afflis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Afflis.

Afflis has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Afflis has closed the distance and engaged Kuklinski in a clinch.
Kuklinski is trying to break free.
Kuklinski drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Afflis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

and Afflis counters by clinching up.
Karl Afflis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Richard Kuklinski.

Afflis has Kuklinski pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Afflis pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Kuklinski tumbling to the mat - Afflis dives into Kuklinski's guard.
Afflis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Afflis is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Kuklinski has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Afflis is looking to defend but Kuklinski has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Afflis! Kuklinski pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Afflis taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Richard Kuklinski!
