PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Shaun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stone comes into the arena with Metallica (Stone Cold Crazy) blaring out of the sound system. Shaun is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Soviettes - "#1 Is Number Two". The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Shaun!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaun walks into a jab.
Stone throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shaun.
Stone swinging wilding here.
Shaun tries to close the distance and clinch but Stone swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Stone throws a one two combo.
Stone misses with an uppercut. Shaun saw that one coming.
Stone displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Shaun lands a nice looking body shot.
A jab from Stone does it's job there.
Stone lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Shaun steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Stone.

James Stone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shaun takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Stone scores with the left hand. Shaun knows he should have avoided that one.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stone gets caught flat footed, as Shaun shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Stone is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Shaun passes Stone's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Shaun is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stone defends it well.

Shaun seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stone does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Stone might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Shaun is working for a kimura but Stone is defending it quite comfortably.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Shaun is taking a breather. Stone says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Stone slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Stone lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Shaun circles away quickly and effectively.

No joy there for Stone, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stone is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Shaun tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Stone just stands there and leans against the cage.
Shaun jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stone walks away with a smile on his face. Shaun gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stone, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
