Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Rogain! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joel Caputo! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Dean Styles and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Caputo is looking to clinch but Rogain is avoiding it.
Rogain is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Caputo's half guard. Caputo tries to kick Rogain off but Rogain keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Caputo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rogain. Caputo gets full guard. Rogain has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Caputo trying to control the position.
Rogain seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Rogain tries to free his leg and advance position but Caputo is retaining full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Caputo has his foot on Rogain's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rogain works his way back into a safe position though. Caputo had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rogain is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Caputo Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rogain's back instead. Rogain has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. Caputo tries to get the hooks in deep but Rogain pushed the leg off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Rogain rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Rogain tries to get to full guard but Caputo has control of the leg. Rogain is trying is best to control the position here. Caputo prevents Rogain from improving his position. Rogain works his way to full guard. Good work. Caputo looks gassed! Rogain pulls Caputo in close to prevent any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rogain is looking to sinch up a triangle. Caputo throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Rogain's body to avoid the submission. Rogain has instead reached around Caputo's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Rogain arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Joe Rogain!
