Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phal Um!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dante Woods!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Um scores with a jab to the body.
Dante Woods seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Woods works Um's body with a nice hook.
Woods scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Um clinches.
Um misses with a punch to the body.
Woods throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Ums head.
Um looking for a takedown.
Um lands a right hand.
Woods fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Woods wants to get back to striking at distance but Um won't allow it.

Um pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Woods fails to land with a series of punches.
Woods misses with the combination.
Um throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Woods looks to land a combination but Um avoids it well.
Woods loads up on a big right hand but Um slips the punch.
Woods paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Um displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Woods throws out the jab.

Woods tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Um counters with a straight right hand.

Um moves into the clinch.

Woods fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Um breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Um takes a jab right on the kisser.

Woods works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Um moves into range and connects with a jab.
Woods jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Woods misses with a looping right.
Um lands with an overhand left.

Um takes the fight into the clinch.
Woods doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Woods throws a head punch that misses.

Um has hold of one of Woods's legs. Woods is fighting the takedown attempt but Um gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Um controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Um postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Woods utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Um is in close to Woods's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Um is looking to work some ground and pound but Woods has wrist control.
Woods is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Um trying to control but Woods is working from the bottom.
Um is in close to Woods's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Um thows a big elbow that misses.
Woods keeping moving, preventing Um from controlling successfully.
Um chips away with some ground and pound.
Um lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Woods utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Woods tries to land a sweep but no joy.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Um loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Um trying to control the position from guard on top but Woods is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Um postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Um postures up in Woods's guard and throws a big left but Woods blocks it.
Um has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Um in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nice straight punches there by Um. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Um.

Um shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Um showed some decent athleticism there.
Woods scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Um manages to mount him!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Woods in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phal Um dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

so Um counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Um throwing strikes from guard but Woods blocks nicely.
Um trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Um trying to control but Woods is working from the bottom.

Woods avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Um lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Um working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Woods's head.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Woods is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Woods throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Um counters with a straight right hand.
Um lands a nice shot to the body.
Woods misses with an uppercut. Um saw that one coming.
Dante Woods is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Woods tries to clinch but Um moves away

and Um counters with a nice double leg into side control. Woods won't be happy with that.
Um trying to control the position but Woods is working away.
Um misses with the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Um trying to control the action but Woods is working from the bottom.
Um staying calm.
Um throws an elbow but Woods slips to the side and avoids it well.
Woods tries to buck Um off but Um is having none of it.

Um is looking to take a break and control but Woods is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Um tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Woods is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Um asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The strikes coming from Um are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Um cracks Woods with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Um happy to just control the position for now.
Um is working Woods over with some ground and pound from side control.
Woods gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Um cracks Woods with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Woods is squirming around, avoiding Um's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phal Um dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Um slips a straight right by Woods.
Woods misses with a looping left.
Woods wants to clinch

and Um decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Woods's guard.
Woods being controlled here, momentarily.
Woods wants to stand and escape but Um is having none of it.
Um makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Um is working Woods over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Woods takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Woods is looking to reverse the position.
Um lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Woods down.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Um creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Woods pushes Um away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Um gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Um lands a nice forearm strike.

Um working the ground and pound.
Woods is not content to let Um control the position.
Um cracks Woods with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Um is looking to take a break and control but Woods is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Phal Um is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
You can see the frustration on Woods's face as Um controls the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Um postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Um happy to just control the position for now.
Um's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Dante Woods has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The referee stands the fighters back up. Phal Um just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Woods throws out a loose jab but Um uses good head movement to avoid it.
Woods swings for the body but Um moves out of range.
Woods throws a hook but Um avoids it easily.
Woods misses with a jab to the body

and Um counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Woods!

And that's the end of the fight!
Phal Um showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Um, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
