The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powers shoots in and drives through. Brusko sprawls well.
Powers wants to clinch up but Brusko keeps it at a distance.
Brusko tries for a takedown but Powers sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Brusko has his takedown stuffed
and Powers counters with a solid body kick.
Powers shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Brusko counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Brusko is looking for a kimura but Powers is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Brusko to get the leverage.
Powers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brusko on the ground.
Brusko tries to pass the half guard into mount. Powers knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Brusko is thwarting Powers's attempts to control the position.
Brusko wants to work for an arm triangle but Powers is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Brusko is looking to take a break and control but Powers is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Powers keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Brusko wants to pass the guard but Powers is defending well.
Brusko stands up and beckons Powers to join him on the feet.
Powers shoots and misses
and Brusko counters with a takedown into side control.

Powers is looking to regain half guard here but Brusko keeps moving and retains side control.
Brusko is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Powers has escaped the position, nice work there.

Powers manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Brusko passes to full mount!
Brusko jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Powers is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Powers and Brusko has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Powers tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Brusko working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Powers turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Brusko off and cradles Powers's limp body as Brusko celebrates with his corner.
