Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chris John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny O Brien (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris John! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny O Brien! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! John fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with O Brien, pushing him back against the cage. John tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
O Brien tries for a takedown. No joy.
John breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
John blocks the body kick.
O Brien darts in trying to clinch and John counters with a shoot takedown. O Brien fights it but they end up in guard. O Brien looking for a sweep. Not yet O Brien, not yet. John trying to control the position from guard on top but O Brien is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. O Brien keeping full guard, as John tries to pass. O Brien looking to sweep here. No luck so far. John controls the pace of the fight for a moment. John stands and steps away. O Brien gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ouch! a nice leg kick from John, right into the meat.
John throws a sloppy head kick and O Brien moves out of range easily. O Brien misses with a leg kick and John counters by clinching up. O Brien drops down looking for an ankle pick but John pulls his leg out and moves away.
O Brien with a poor takedown and John counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Chris John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny O Brien. John avoiding damage as O Brien throws knees to the body.
A left hand lands to the body for John.
John connects with a nasty looking knee right to O Brien's face.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from John. O Brien tries for a takedown but John manages to get underhooks.
O Brien looks gassed! John tries to pull guard but O Brien won't allow it.
O Brien pulls guard effortlessly. John is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. John postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. John won't allow O Brien to sweep him here. O Brien is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. John looking to pass the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. O Brien is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. O Brien working for a triangle but John defends it easily.
O Brien can't keep his opponent in guard - John advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. John throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. O Brien looking for a kimura from the bottom but John passes into side control! John decides to stand back up. John gets a takedown into half guard. John is looking for a kimura here.
O Brien is trying to control but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. O Brien wants to get back to full guard. O Brien keeping hold of John's head, controlling as best he can. John trying to mount his opponent but O Brien defends it. O Brien throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
John seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but O Brien does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. O Brien gets back to full guard.

Chris John dominated that round. That's time! John's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
O Brien misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
O Brien misses with a takedown and John counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Johnny O Brien seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. John swats away the attempt to clinch by O Brien. John shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in O Brien's guard. John might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. O Brien working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. John doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. John manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. John is pushing down on O Brien's leg trying to pass to half guard. O Brien is fighting to maintain full guard but John has managed to sneak the leg through. O Brien is trying to maintain the position but John is very close to passing his half guard. John slips a nice elbow through O Brien's hands, connecting with O Brien's forehead. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. John is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

O Brien manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. O Brien wants to sweep here but John controlling him for the moment. O Brien manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. John manages to get himself to full guard.
O Brien slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if John tries to get out of the position. O Brien wants to lay and pray for a moment but John keeps working. John tries to buck O Brien off but O Brien is having none of it. John takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
O Brien is putting a hurting on John here, landing some big shots from side control. John is looking to reverse the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. John is letting O Brien control him for a moment.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. O Brien throws a head kick that half lands.
O Brien closes the distance looking to clinch and John counters by moving into the clinch. O Brien pulls guard effortlessly. O Brien controlling the position. John wants to control from the top but O Brien keeps moving. John is pushing down on O Brien's leg trying to pass to half guard. O Brien is fighting to maintain full guard but John has managed to sneak the leg through. John wants to pass to mount but O Brien is defending the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. O Brien is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of John's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take John's back! John looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands. John turns into O Brien and is now in his guard.
John postures up and lands a big shot to O Brien's brow. O Brien manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
John tries to hold on but O Brien pushes him away. John is desperately trying to improve his position but O Brien has a good base and remains in mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Chris John will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Chris John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny O Brien. John fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but O Brien avoids it really well and circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. O Brien shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and John counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. O Brien throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. O Brien closes the distance but John moves to the side and John holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. O Brien gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. O Brien sitting in guard, not really doing much. O Brien throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. O Brien is looking to stand up but John won't let him. O Brien trying to control but John is working from the bottom. John knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for O Brien on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. John is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. John working a defensive guard but O Brien passes into half guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. O Brien feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. John utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. John working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from O Brien. O Brien trying to control but John is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. O Brien looking to sit in guard and control but John gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. There's a bit of a scramble here and now O Brien is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. O Brien wants to control from the top but John keeps moving. O Brien thows a big elbow that misses. O Brien wants to control from the top but John keeps moving. O Brien is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. John working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from O Brien. Johnny O Brien has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Chris John is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chris John. Well John has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
