Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Filippe Oliveira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, BJ Gracie! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oliveira fails to land the takedown. Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Gracie trying to control but Oliveira is working from the bottom. Oliveira tries to strike from the bottom.
Gracie looking to pass the guard. Oliveira looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gracie is one step ahead there. Oliveira is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gracie is aware though and is defending well. Gracie gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Oliveira tries to clinch up but Gracie circles away and keeps his distance. That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie tries for a takedown. No joy.
Oliveira breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Gracie shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Oliveira's guard. Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oliveira swivels though and keeps the full guard. Gracie missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Oliveira is trying to keep Gracie in close.
Oliveira looking for a sweep. Not yet Oliveira, not yet. Oliveira avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Oliveira is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Oliveira manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Oliveira's guard. Oliveira keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Gracie swats away the attempt to clinch by Oliveira. Oliveira throws a sloppy head kick and Gracie moves out of range easily. Oliveira tries to clinch up. Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Oliveira looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gracie throwing strikes from guard but Oliveira blocks nicely. Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Oliveira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gracie stays in close to Oliveira's body and controls the position. Gracie trying to control but Oliveira is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie wants to pass the guard but Oliveira is keeping the position. Oliveira wants to control the position but Gracie says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Oliveira is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gracie pulls his head out easily. Oliveira is breathing heavily.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Gracie tries to score a power double leg takedown but Oliveira sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gracie somewhat. Gracie closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Oliveira did well to prevent Gracie getting side control. Gracie is working for a kimura but Oliveira is defending it quite comfortably.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Gracie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gracie is thwarting Oliveira's attempts to control the position. Gracie wants to control but Oliveira is keeping him busy. Gracie is working for a kimura but Oliveira is defending it quite comfortably.
Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

BJ Gracie dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Oliveira gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Gracie in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Oliveira tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Gracie!
