PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matheus Dutra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Musa Borzoev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dutra comes into the arena with new pespective blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matheus Dutra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Musa Borzoev!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dutra fails with an attempt to clinch.
Dutra looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Borzoev scores with a hook to the body. Dutra takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Dutra is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Borzoev.


It looks like Matheus Dutra has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Borzoev tried to score with a low kick but Dutra checks it.
Borzoev catches Dutra with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Borzoev moves into range and clinches up with Dutra.
Borzoev wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dutra has him pressed against the cage.

Borzoev successfully pulls guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Borzoev is looking to stand up but Dutra isn't so interested in that idea.
Borzoev trying to keep a closed guard but Dutra is proving a slippery customer.
Borzoev has control of Dutra's left arm, preventing Dutra from doing any damage.

Borzoev uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Borzoev works Dutra's body with a nice hook.

Borzoev throws a low kick but it's checked well by Dutra.

Borzoev throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dutra was covering up waiting for the punch and Borzoev finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Borzoev wants to control from the top but Dutra keeps moving.

Borzoev thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Borzoev postures up in Dutra's guard and throws a big left but Dutra blocks it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dutra clinches but Borzoev breaks the clinch
letting Borzoev counter with a right hand.

Borzoev throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Borzoev darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Borzoev seems to be working for a kimura but Dutra defends the submission attempt.
Dutra tries to get to full guard but Borzoev has control of the leg.
Borzoev content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Borzoev moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Dutra.
Borzoev trying to control the action but Dutra is working from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dutra tries to get back to half guard but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dutra manages to get back to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Musa Borzoev dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Matheus Dutra's cut.
That's time! Dutra's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Dutra fails to pull guard.
Dutra drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Borzoev gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Borzoev is looking to break free of the clinch but Dutra has double underhooks.
Borzoev wants to get back to striking at distance but Dutra won't allow it.
Borzoev is looking to break free of the clinch but Dutra has double underhooks.

Borzoev escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Borzoev goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Borzoev misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Dutra has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Borzoev finds it's way round the side to connect with Dutra's head.
Borzoev finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Borzoev moves into the clinch.
Borzoev prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matheus Dutra. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dutra is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Borzoev gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Borzoev has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Dutra.

Dutra keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Borzoev's efforts to push away.

Borzoev is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dutra is working for takedown but Borzoev is calmly controlling the position for now.
Borzoev has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Dutra has Borzoev up against the cage in a clinch.
Borzoev is pressed up against the cage. Dutra has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Borzoev down to the mat. Borzoev avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Dutra gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Borzoev to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Dutra working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Borzoev doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Borzoev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Borzoev might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dutra kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dutra closes the distance but Borzoev moves to the side
and Borzoev counters with a one-two to the body.

Dutra decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Dutra wants to work for an arm triangle but Borzoev is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Musa Borzoev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

and Borzoev counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Borzoev counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dutra!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A nice elbow there by Borzoev.

Dutra wants to hold on but Borzoev pushes him away.
Borzoev looking to control but Dutra is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Borzoev uses his free foot to push down on Dutra's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Dutra.

Dutra is squirming around, avoiding Borzoev's attempts to control the action.

Borzoev is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Dutra is surviving well by controlling Borzoev's body position as best he can.
Dutra takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Well Borzoev has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
