PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hamster Damn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jake Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hamster Damn!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Damn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Damn closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Shields keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Damn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shields keeps working.
Shields could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Shields is trying is best to control the position here.
Shields is staying active underneath Damn, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Damn is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Shields kicks off Damn and gets to his feet.
Shields throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Damn shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Shields sprawls well. Shields wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Damn gets slowly back to his feet.

Damn wants to get back to his feet but Shields is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Shields seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Damn wants to stand but Shields is controlling the position.

Damn avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

and Shields counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Damn's guard now.
Damn is looking to stand up but Shields isn't so interested in that idea.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Damn is breathing heavily.

Shields seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Damn for as long as he can get away with.

Shields stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Damn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Shields drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Shields trying to control the position but Damn is working away.
Shields in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Damn wants to get back to his feet but Shields drags him back down.

Damn is pushing down on Shields's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shields is fighting to maintain full guard but Damn has managed to sneak the leg through.

Damn wants to take a breather but Shields is having none of it.
Damn content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Damn drops an elbow to the side of Shields's head.

Damn tries to pass to full mount but Shields defends it.
Damn works his foot free and advances to mount.
Damn looking to control but Shields is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Damn is landing with some decent strikes but Shields is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Shields blocking the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Shields tries to get back to half guard but can't.
BOOM! Damn connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Shields is squirming around, avoiding Damn's attempts to control the action.
Shields tries to lock up and control but Damn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Shields keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Damn cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Damn prevents Shields from getting the reversal.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Damn pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Damn punishing his opponent with strikes.
Hamster Damn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Damn lands a big shot there that rocks Shields but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hamster Damn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Shields has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
