Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harper throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Harper shoots in but Vernos avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Harper looks to score with a jab to the body but Vernos is just out of range.
Harper fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Harper takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like John Harper has been cut.
Vernos swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Harper ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vernos moves away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Harper might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Harper is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Vernos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Harper swings and misses with a hook to the body.
John Harper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Harper closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Harper is keen to just control but Vernos is a slippery customer.
Vernos is trying to maintain the position but Harper is very close to passing his half guard.
Vernos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Harper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Harper is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Vernos has managed to free his arm - good work.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Harper is just content to waste time from the top position. Vernos takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Vernos throws a head kick but Harper moves out of range.
Harper could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Harper ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vernos moves away.

Harper shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Harper was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Harper can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Vernos is looking to escape.
Vernos wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Harper.
Harper tries to control but Vernos wriggling away.

Harper looking to secure an arm triangle but Vernos defends it well.
Harper throwing strikes here but Vernos is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harper fails to move to back control.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Harper cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Vernos dominated that round.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Vernos wants to clinch.

Harper changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Vernos looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Vernos is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Vernos is breathing heavily.
Harper is looking to take a break and control but Vernos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Who's going to make the next move?
Vernos regains half guard, as Harper was trying to land strikes.
Vernos manages to get to full guard.
Vernos wants to sweep but no luck.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Harper drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Vernos dives on top into guard.
Vernos postures up.
Harper is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Vernos is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Vernos won't allow Harper to sweep him here.

Harper has his foot on Vernos's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vernos works his way back into a safe position though.

Vernos gets to his feet - Harper follows without any prompting.
Vernos connects with the punch.
Harper fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Harper. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Harper shoots in but no luck this time.
Vernos lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - Harper can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Vernos and Harper drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Vernos.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). George Vernos!
