PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Purple Nurple (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gregg Chambers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nurple kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is you shit me to tears - the tennants. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Purple Nurple!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gregg Chambers!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chambers looks to score with a jab to the body but Nurple is just out of range.

Chambers scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Chambers throwing shots but Nurple is blocking nicely.

Nurple actively working from the bottom here.
Nurple is looking for a sweep. Chambers is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Chambers sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Chambers looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Chambers is looking for a kimura but Nurple is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Chambers to get the leverage.

Nurple works his way to full guard. Good work.

Chambers stands and steps away. Nurple gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Chambers avoids the head kick by Nurple.
Purple Nurple seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Chambers decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Chambers gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Nurple is looking to clinch.
Nurple shoots and misses

and Chambers decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Nurple's guard.
Nurple is breathing heavily.
Chambers is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Chambers gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Chambers scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chambers tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Chambers has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Nurple explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Nurple could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Nurple throws a combination that misses

and Chambers counters with a nice double leg into side control. Nurple won't be happy with that.
Nurple tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Chambers wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Chambers takes a little break here. Nurple wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Chambers looks up at the clock and then as Nurple takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Chambers smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Nurple tries to improve position but can't.
Nurple can't do much from the bottom here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nurple is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Chambers is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Chambers controls the position from side control.
Nurple wants to control but Chambers postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Chambers fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nurple sprawls well initially but Chambers persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chambers slows the pace down in half guard.

Chambers stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Nurple to get to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gregg Chambers dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Nurple tries for a takedown but Chambers circles away easily
letting Chambers counter with a right hand.

so Chambers counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Chambers controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Chambers loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Chambers trying to control the position from guard on top but Nurple is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chambers stands and throws Nurple's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Nurple tries to bench press Chambers off him but Chambers keeps the position.

Check out the look on Chambers's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chambers decides to take the fight back to the feet.
A good leg kick by Chambers.

Chambers shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nurple manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Chambers avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Nurple working for a triangle but Chambers defends it easily.

Chambers won't allow Nurple to sweep him here.

Nurple might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Nurple is working an open guard so Chambers takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Chambers counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Chambers.
Nurple is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Chambers makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Chambers scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chambers wants to pass the guard but Nurple is defending well.

Nurple wants to sweep but Chambers has passed to side control!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chambers tries to advance to mount but can't.

Gregg Chambers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Chambers looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Nurple!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Chambers cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Nurple tries to reverse the position but Chambers maintains control.
Nurple swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Nurple is trying to stand up.
Chambers raining down shots from the mount!

Chambers wants to finish this one by submission but Nurple is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Chambers.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Nurple keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Chambers landing strikes from the mount.
Nurple taking shots to the head.

Nurple is looking to get to half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nurple tries to hold on but Chambers pushes him away.
Chambers with shots to the head and body - Nurple looks very uncomfortable down there.

Nurple is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Chambers won't let Nurple get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Purple Nurple has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Chambers wants to control the pace but Nurple is squirming around nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gregg Chambers comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chambers has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
