PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Travis Moonstar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cezar Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Travis Moonstar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cezar Silva!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Paulo Santos and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Moonstar defends it nicely.
Silva throws a head kick that misses.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Silva is defended easily by Moonstar.

Silva clinches up with Moonstar and pushes him back against the cage.
Silva has Moonstar pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Moonstar manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Travis Moonstar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cezar Silva.
Moonstar fails to pull guard.
A nice left hand lands by Silva.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Silva tries to score a body lock takedown but Moonstar shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Silva has had enough of the clinch but Moonstar keeps him there for the moment.
Moonstar tries for a takedown. No joy.
Moonstar tries to land a knee to the head but Silva blocks with his arms.

Silva pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Silva gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Moonstar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Moonstar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Silva has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Moonstar has managed to get both his arms back between Silva's legs - danger averted.
Silva wants to stand but Moonstar is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Moonstar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Moonstar landing some decent shots from guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Silva being controlled here, momentarily.

Silva working for a triangle but Moonstar defends it easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Travis Moonstar will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Cezar Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Silva fails with the takedown

and Moonstar counters with a nice double leg into side control. Silva won't be happy with that.
Moonstar content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Moonstar tries to move to full mount but Silva actually manages to regain half guard.

Silva tries to roll over but Moonstar keeps him under control.
Silva pushes Moonstar off looking to stand but Moonstar dives back in and keeps control.

Silva actively working from the bottom here.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Well, if Moonstar is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Silva is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Moonstar pulls his head out easily.
Moonstar is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva is trying to get back to full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Moonstar scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Well, if Moonstar is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Moonstar seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Silva for as long as he can get away with.
Moonstar looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Moonstar knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Silva on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Moonstar content to control rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Travis Moonstar dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Silva throws a nice outside leg kick.
Silva gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Moonstar counters with a shoot takedown. Silva fights it but they end up in guard.

Silva looking for a triangle here. Moonstar is fighting it but it looks tight! Silva pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Moonstar is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Cezar Silva!
