Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ted Cabbage! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Schnitzer Schnitz! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Aleksandr Martynov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cabbage tries to clinch up but Schnitz circles away and keeps his distance. Cabbage shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Schnitz is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cabbage's half guard. Schnitz prevents Cabbage from standing back up.
Cabbage knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Schnitz on the ground. Cabbage is looking for a sweep. Schnitz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Schnitz lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Ground and pound from Schnitz. Schnitz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cabbage pushes Schnitz off looking to stand but Schnitz dives back in and keeps control.
Schnitz lands strikes from half guard. Schnitz not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Schnitz lands with a punch from half guard. Cabbage actively working from the bottom here. Schnitz uses his free foot to push down on Cabbage's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cabbage. Cabbage is breathing heavily. Schnitz is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Cabbage has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Cabbage!
That's one minute gone in the round. Schnitz throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Schnitz had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Cabbage is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Schnitz Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Cabbage's back instead. Schnitz lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Schnitz.
Cabbage covers up after that shot from Schnitz.
Schnitz lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Cabbage hold on?!
Schnitz lands an elbow to the side of the head. Schnitz lands strikes to the head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Schnitz working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cabbage tries to escape the position.
Cabbage staying busy and making it hard for Schnitz to control. Cabbage trying to get back to his feet but Schnitz is in full control for now. Schnitz lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Schnitz.
Schnitz working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Cabbage is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Schnitz has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Cabbage taps out!
