PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Max Beltran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seppo Soturi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beltran kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Big Poppa. Soturi is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Insomnium - Down With the Sun. Max Beltran has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Max Beltran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Seppo Soturi!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beltran throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Soturi tries to close the distance and clinch but Beltran swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A bone on bone clash there as Soturi blocks the leg kick.
Beltran darts in trying to clinch

and Soturi counters by clinching up.
Beltran trying to stall but Soturi improves his position.
Beltran tries to work over Soturi's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Beltran tries to pull guard but Soturi holds him up against the cage and eventually Beltran drops back down to his feet.
Beltran is pressed up against the cage. Soturi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Beltran down to the mat. Beltran avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Beltran lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Soturi defending well as Beltran loads up on a big left hand.
Beltran throws a shot from downtown. Soturi moves away and avoids it.
Beltran fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Soturi on the side of the head.
Beltran throws a hook but Soturi blocks it.
Beltran swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Soturi blocks a low kick nicely.

Beltran misses with a wild body shot.

Beltran looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Soturi is not content to let Beltran control the position.
Beltran landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Beltran prevents Soturi from standing back up.
Soturi tries to kick Beltran off in order to stand up. Beltran Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Soturi is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Beltran lands an elbow.
Soturi tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Beltran throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Beltran lands a nice shot to the head.
Beltran cracks Soturi with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Soturi is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Beltran is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Soturi can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Soturi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Beltran. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Beltran jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Soturi is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Soturi and Beltran has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Beltran thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Beltran is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Soturi knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Beltran throws an elbow but Soturi slips to the side and avoids it well.
The strikes coming from Beltran are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A left lands for Beltran.
Beltran scores with a crisp jab that stopped Soturi in his tracks.
Beltran leaves Soturi with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Beltran cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Soturi counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Beltran looking for a takedown.
Soturi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Beltran avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Max Beltran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Seppo Soturi.
Soturi is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Soturi tries a body shot but Beltran blocks it.

Beltran is fighting off a takedown attempt but Soturi is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Beltran to the mat. Beltran regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Beltran has his foot on Soturi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Soturi works his way back into a safe position though.

Beltran is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Soturi wants to stand but Beltran has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Beltran has his foot on Soturi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Soturi works his way back into a safe position though.

Beltran is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Soturi is aware though and is defending well.
Beltran has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Soturi stands and steps away. Beltran gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Max Beltran seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Beltran throws a right and a left that Soturi avoids nicely.

Beltran tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Soturi counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Beltran!
Beltran is squirming around, avoiding Soturi's attempts to control the action.
Beltran tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Soturi tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
You get the feeling that Beltran really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Beltran wants to hold on but Soturi pushes him away.

Beltran is in a horrible position here. Soturi smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Beltran gets back to half guard.
Soturi is trying to control the action in half guard but Beltran is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Soturi wants to get back to his feet.

Beltran is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Soturi pulls his head out easily.

Soturi decides to return to a standing position.

Soturi decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Beltran manages to get to full guard.

Soturi keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Beltran's head.

Beltran throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Soturi decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Soturi takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Beltran throws a nice looking combination but Soturi bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Beltran connects with a body shot.
Beltran lands with an overhand left.
A slow jab from Beltran misses its intended target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Seppo Soturi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Beltran throws an overhand right that lands on Soturi's shoulder, as Soturi tries to avoid the shot.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Beltran, as that shot connected.
Beltran is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Soturi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Beltran's half guard.
Soturi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Soturi wants to stand up but Beltran has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Soturi decides to return to a standing position.
Soturi ducks right into an uppercut from Beltran.
Beltran tries to clinch but Soturi moves away

and Soturi counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Beltran working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Soturi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Soturi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Beltran is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Soturi rolls with it to try and escape but Beltran cranks on the arm and Soturi is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
