PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eugene Hutz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Kross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Hutz might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Wonderlust King. Eugene Hutz has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eugene Hutz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Kross!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Chad Campbell and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hutz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hutz controls Kross momentarily but Kross frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hutz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kross trying to control but Hutz is working from the bottom.

Hutz looking for a guillotine here but Kross defends easily.
Kross is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Kross trying to control the position from guard on top but Hutz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hutz looking for a sweep. Not yet Hutz, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kross postures up.
Hutz keeping moving, preventing Kross from controlling successfully.
Kross has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hutz is proving hard to escape from.
Hutz trying to control the position.
Kross works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Hutz looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Kross darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Kross is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hutz defends it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hutz tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Kross wants to stand but Hutz has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Kross wants to pass to mount but Hutz is defending the position.
Kross slips a nice elbow through Hutz's hands, connecting with Hutz's forehead.
Kross wants to stand up but Hutz has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Hutz is looking to improve his position.
Hutz slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Hutz is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hutz throws his legs up looking for a submission but Kross uses it to pass to side control.
Hutz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kross controls the position.
Hutz manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Hutz tries to pass to full mount but Kross defends it.
Hutz trying to control from half guard but Kross is working away.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kross can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kross tries to get to full guard but Hutz has control of the leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hutz wants to pass to mount but Kross is defending the position.

Hutz is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Kross has managed to free his arm - good work.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Kross dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kross lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Hutz is looking to clinch.

Kross clinches up against the cage.

Kross breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hutz gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Kross counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Kross wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hutz keeps working.
Kross wants to pass the guard but Hutz is defending well.
Kross trying to control the action but Hutz is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kross works his way into full mount!
Kross trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kross dominating with strikes here.

Kross is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Hutz has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Hutz!
Hutz cracks Kross with a solid left hand.
Hutz wants to control from the top but Kross keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hutz with a nice head shot there.
Kross really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hutz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hutz stands up from Kross's guard - Hutz perhaps looking for a knockout.
Kross throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hutz stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Kross is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hutz's half guard.
Kross is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Hutz manages to get to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hutz has a closed guard, preventing Kross from standing up.

Hutz has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Kross should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Hutz has tightened it up now! Kross should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Eugene Hutz!
