Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jorge Monnerat! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maik Pellicciai! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Monnerat moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Maik Pellicciai has been cut. Monnerat shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pellicciai defends it nicely. Pellicciai misses with a combination
and Monnerat counters with a three punch combo that has Pellicciai backing up. Pellicciai nods at Monnerat to acknowledge the strikes. Monnerat shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pellicciai pinned against the cage. Pellicciai gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Monnerat stalks Pellicciai and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Pellicciai's face. Pellicciai staggers backwards, shaken. Monnerat tries to clinch there but Pellicciai circles away.
Pellicciai misses with a looping left. Pellicciai showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Monnerat.
Monnerat will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Monnerat changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pellicciai tries to avoid it but Monnerat manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pellicciai to the ground. Pellicciai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jorge Monnerat. That's going to take a lot out of him. Monnerat tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Pellicciai avoids a punch combination nicely.
Monnerat tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pellicciai sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Monnerat somewhat. Monnerat falls off balance throwing a combination
and Pellicciai counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Pellicciai falls off balance throwing a combination
enabling Monnerat to counter with a crisp jab. Pellicciai keeps the fight on the outside. Pellicciai lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Monnerat circles away quickly and effectively.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pellicciai throws a series of punches but Monnerat avoids them all with ease. Monnerat throws a nice looking combination but Pellicciai bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Monnerat fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Pellicciai misses with a combination
and Monnerat counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Monnerat is breathing heavily. Monnerat seems to be working for a kimura but Pellicciai defends the submission attempt. Pellicciai has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Monnerat. Oh but Pellicciai has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Monnerat goes limp - he's gone! Pellicciai jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
