PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chito Hua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mohammad Malik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malik has chosen Stronger as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chito Hua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mohammad Malik!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Malik scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Malik is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hua doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Malik.

Malik is working for a submission of some sort.

Hua looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Malik looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hua trying to hold on to Malik's head to control him but Malik postures up.

Malik is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hua wants to improve his position but Malik is controlling well.
Malik seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hua does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Malik wants to pass to mount but Hua is defending the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Malik shoots in for a takedown but Hua shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Hua throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hua keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hua tries to clinch up but Malik circles away and keeps his distance.
Hua stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hua wants it to stay on the feet.
Chito Hua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mohammad Malik.
Malik has a takedown stuffed.
Hua throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hua will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hua fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hua keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Malik takes a knee right on the jaw!


It looks like Mohammad Malik has been cut.
Malik tries to pull guard but Hua holds him up against the cage and eventually Malik drops back down to his feet.
Hua is pushing Malik up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Malik tries to score a body lock takedown but Hua shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Malik goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hua prevents it.
Malik looks gassed!
Hua utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Hua tries a knee to the head but Malik blocks it.
Hua throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Malik blocks it with crossed arms.
Malik goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hua prevents it.
Malik goes for a takedown attempt but Hua pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Hua throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Malik fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Hua pushes Malik up against the cage in a clinch.
Malik takes a knee right on the jaw!
The referee calls for Hua to work.
Malik managing to block the knees to the body from Hua.
Malik goes for a takedown attempt but Hua pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Good leg kick by Hua there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Hua throws a sloppy head kick and Malik moves out of range easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hua is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Chito Hua is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Malik changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hua tries to avoid it but Malik manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hua to the ground. Hua escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Malik clinches but Hua breaks the clinch
and Hua counters with a head kick.
Good leg kick by Hua there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Malik is breathing heavily.

Hua clinches up against the cage.
Hua trying to stall but Malik improves his position.

Hua tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Malik drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hua gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Chito Hua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mohammad Malik.
Malik tries to pull guard but Hua holds him up against the cage and eventually Malik drops back down to his feet.
Hua tries to land knees in the clinch but Malik avoids the damage to the body.
Malik tries for a takedown. No joy.
Hua stops a takedown attempt from Malik.

Malik tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hua just stands there and leans against the cage.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Malik takes a knee to the side of the body.

Hua prevents a takedown attempt there.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Malik tries to score a body lock takedown but Hua shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Stalling in the clinch from Hua.

Hua breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Malik circles away from the clinch attempt

and Malik counters with a shoot takedown. Hua fights it but they end up in guard.
Hua has control of Malik's left arm, preventing Malik from doing any damage.
Hua is trying to keep Malik in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Malik trying to control the position from guard on top but Hua is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hua working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Malik.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hua escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Malik gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Malik wants to control from the top but Hua keeps moving.
Malik is looking to work some ground and pound but Hua has wrist control.
Malik trying to control the position from guard on top but Hua is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hua clinches but Malik breaks the clinch

and Malik counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Malik.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hua is looking for a triangle but Malik pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Hua closes the distance looking to clinch

and Malik counters with a takedown into side control.
A control attempt from Hua but he's now mounted!

Malik is going olschool here, as he tries to force Hua to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hua shrugs it off.
Malik can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hua is looking to escape.
Malik tries to stand up but Hua grabs his leg and drags him down! Hua is now on top, in side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Malik is looking for a sweep.
Hua sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Malik is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Malik is looking for a sweep.
Malik tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Hua presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Hua trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Malik is desperately trying to improve his position but Hua has a good base and remains in mount.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hua controlling the position easily from mount.
Hua working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Malik slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Hua seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Malik does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Hua slows the pace down in half guard.

Hua is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Malik has managed to free his arm - good work.

Hua thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Mohammad Malik has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Malik is looking for a sweep. Hua is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hua looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hua has managed to clinch.

Malik successfully pulls guard.
Hua wants to pass the guard but Malik is keeping the position.
Malik tries to strike from the bottom.
Malik looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Malik controls Hua momentarily but Hua frees himself.

Malik looking for a guillotine here but Hua defends easily.
Malik tries to strike from the bottom.
Chito Hua is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Malik looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hua is one step ahead there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Malik counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mohammad Malik comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hua has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
