Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Pontes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Javier Noriega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Javier Noriega is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando Pontes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Javier Noriega!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Noriega takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Noriega scores with a jab to the jaw.
Pontes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Noriega sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pontes somewhat.
Pontes misses with a takedown attempt - Noriega sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Noriega dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Pontes fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fernando Pontes. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Noriega lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Pontes shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Noriega but Noriega pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Noriega is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Pontes.

Pontes has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Noriega finds it's way round the side to connect with Pontes's head.
Noriega cracks Pontes with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Pontes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Noriega looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Pontes tries for a kimura but Noriega is defending well.
Noriega can't do much from the bottom here.
Noriega is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Pontes off and has taken his back!
Noriega is trying to stick to Pontes's back but Pontes is turning into Noriega. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Noriega's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Pontes.

Noriega is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Noriega is looking for a sweep. Pontes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pontes in particular looking to stall.

Pontes wants to take a breather but Noriega is having none of it.

Noriega throws a leg kick which misses Pontes's front leg but catches the back leg as Pontes tries to avoid it.

Pontes shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Noriega napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Pontes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Noriega, who protects the arm well.
Pontes is looking to take a break and control but Noriega is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Noriega tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pontes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Pontes lands a decent elbow from side control.
Pontes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Noriega keeps working.

Pontes thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Noriega takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Noriega manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Pontes is working for a submission of some sort.
Noriega is trying to maintain the position but Pontes is very close to passing his half guard.

Pontes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Noriega does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That was a close second round but I would say that Fernando Pontes will probably get the nod.

Noriega fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Pontes.
Noriega throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Noriega lands a glancing blow to the side of Pontes's head.

Pontes closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Noriega scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Noriega tries to bum rush Pontes with a series of wild strikes but Pontes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Noriega throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Pontes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pontes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Noriega tries to buck Pontes off but Pontes is having none of it.

Noriega manages to work his way to half guard, despite Pontes's best efforts.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pontes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Noriega is just riding it out for now. Pontes eventually gives up the hold.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

I would just about give that final round to Javier Noriega.
