Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Chaves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jack Joe! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chaves shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Joe as he jumps to the side. Chaves drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Joe is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Chaves wants to control but Joe is keeping him busy. Chaves prevents Joe from escaping the position. Chaves trying to control the action but Joe is working from the bottom. Joe is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chaves is looking to take a break and control but Joe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Chaves is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Joe knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Chaves tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Chaves has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Chaves sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Joe is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Joe is pushing Chaves's head away, looking to escape. Chaves manages to hold on to the position though. Chaves is trying to get an arm triangle but Joe is defending well. Chaves wants to control but Joe is keeping him busy. Chaves is really struggling to control Joe but he's trying to hold on to the position. Joe prevents Chaves from improving position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joe is not content to let Chaves control the position.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Joe lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Joe.
It looks like Carlos Chaves has been cut. A head kick by Joe - that's a beauty! Chaves is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Joe can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Jack Joe!
