PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arturo Cano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Percival Butcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Percival Butcher told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Arturo Cano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Percival Butcher!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Illya Tyunina and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butcher swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cano shoots for a takedown but Butcher saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Butcher lands a with a good body shot.
Cano attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Cano connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Cano fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cano keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cano throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Butcher's waist but Butcher gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cano off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arturo Cano. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Butcher keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Butcher looks to land a right hand but Cano moved out of range.
An inside leg kick lands from Cano.
Butcher throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cano tries to score a power double leg takedown but Butcher sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cano somewhat.
Butcher connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Cano's hands.

Percival Butcher is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Butcher looks to land a combination but Cano avoids it well.

Cano feints and as Butcher raises his hands in defense, Cano changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cano trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Butcher really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cano. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cano is working hard here to advance position.
Butcher tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cano pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Butcher is keeping the position for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Butcher can do anything to dispel that myth.

Butcher wants to sweep here but Cano controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Butcher throws a jab when Cano was well out of range.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cano takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Butcher misses with a jab, cross combination.
Butcher throws a body punch but Cano moves out of range.
Butcher misses with the combination.
Cano moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Butcher looks gassed!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cano shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Cano was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Arturo Cano will probably get the nod.
That's time! Cano's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Butcher wants to get back to his feet but Cano is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Butcher is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Cano is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Cano wants to control from the top but Butcher keeps moving.

Butcher is looking to stand up but Cano isn't so interested in that idea.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Cano fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cano throws a leg kick but Butcher sees it coming and moves out of range.

Butcher stuffs the takedown attempt from Cano. Cano gets slowly back to his feet.

Cano shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Butcher keeping moving, preventing Cano from controlling successfully.

Cano tries to free his leg and advance position but Butcher is retaining full guard.

Cano trying to control but Butcher is working from the bottom.
Cano is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Butcher is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Cano slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Cano works to advance to full mount. Butcher defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Cano can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Butcher is looking to escape.
Butcher tries to hold on but Cano postures up.
Cano wants to take Butcher's back but he can't do it this time.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Cano has control of Butcher's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Butcher regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Butcher is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Butcher prevents Cano from taking his back.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Butcher reaches up and holds on to Cano to control the position.
Butcher has given up his back. Will we see Cano going for some submissions?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Butcher leaves Cano with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Butcher looks to land a combination but Cano avoids it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cano changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Butcher tries to avoid it but Cano manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Butcher to the ground. Butcher escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Cano closes this distance looking for a takedown but Butcher circles away.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Butcher throws a right hand that Cano ducks under and follows up with a left that Cano also avoids with ease.
Cano shoots in for a double leg but Butcher sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Butcher is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cano.

Cano walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Butcher swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cano closes this distance looking for a takedown but Butcher circles away.
Butcher fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cano thumps Butcher with a low kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Cano.

Butcher throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Cano fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Butcher avoids it really well and circles away.
Cano shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Butcher defends it nicely.
Butcher scores with a shot to the body.
Percival Butcher has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Butcher looks to land a left hand but Cano moved out of range nicely.
Butcher uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Butcher misses with the combination.
Cano shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Butcher defends it nicely.
Butcher throws a lazy right hand but Cano sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Percival Butcher comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cano has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
