PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sam Stout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and methos lage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stout kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is How we do. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that methos lage was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sam Stout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, methos lage!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

lage moves into the clinch.

Stout is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. lage can't fight it off and eventually Stout manages to take the fight to the floor. lage looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

lage working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stout doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stout manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

lage is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Stout controlling from the top position.

lage is working an open guard so Stout takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Stout buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Stout misses with a double jab.
lage tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stout paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Stout keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

and lage counters with a single leg into guard. Stout didn't expect that.
Stout pulls lage in close to prevent any damage.

lage drops back, looking for a kneebar! Stout looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Stout looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Stout!

Stout working away.
lage might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Stout kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
lage is trying to escape the position but Stout is controlling the position.

Stout decides to stand back up.
Stout really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Stout tries to close the distance and clinch up but lage swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Stout tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Stout misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Stout gets in close and instigates a clinch.

lage pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
lage throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stout's waist but Stout gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing lage off to one side.
Sam Stout seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
lage keeps the fight on the outside.

Stout has taken the fight to the clinch.

lage manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Stout gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Stout is breathing heavily.
Stout tries to clinch up but lage circles away and keeps his distance.
Stout looks for a takedown but lage sprawls well.

Stout shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Stout was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
lage tries to get back to half guard but can't.
lage wants to hold on but Stout pushes him away.
lage can't escape the position.

Stout controlling the pace for now.
lage really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Stout takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Stout throws and low kick but lage moves out of range easily.

Stout darts in and clinches lage up against the cage.
The referee calls for lage to work.
lage throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Stout blocks it with crossed arms.
lage takes an elbow to the forehead.
Stout tries to pull guard but lage won't allow it.
Stout is looking to control lage's arms but lage gets an underhook and turns him. Now Stout has his back to the cage.

Stout breaks the clinch.
lage shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Stout defends it nicely.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from lage.
Stout clinches but lage breaks the clinch

and lage counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by lage.
lage is breathing heavily.
Stout creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through lage's defenses.
lage blocks the elbow strike.
Stout slows down the pace here.
lage jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stout walks away with a smile on his face. lage gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sam Stout has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of methos lage.

Stout misses with a takedown attempt - lage sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Stout tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
lage gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Stout finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
lage shoots in for a takedown but Stout shows good takedown defense.

letting lage counter with a right hand.

lage tries to lock up and control but Stout gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
lage is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
lage tries to hold on but Stout pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

lage tries to reverse the position but Stout maintains control.
lage is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
lage is in all sorts of trouble here.
lage is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Stout sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
lage wants to control but Stout is having none of it.

Stout looking to control and managing it successfully.
lage is looking to get to half guard.
Stout controlling the position easily from mount.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sam Stout overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Stout's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Stout jumps into guard, dragging lage to the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
lage has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Stout is proving hard to escape from.
Stout controls lage momentarily but lage frees himself.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
lage bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Stout's head.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

lage darts in and clinches Stout up against the cage.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Stout.
lage is looking to break free of the clinch but Stout has double underhooks.
Stout has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Stout wants a takedown but no success here.
Stout tries to stall but lage uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Stout lands a left hand that snaps the head of lage backwards.
lage dodges an elbow strike from Stout.
Stout misses with an elbow over the top.

lage jumps guard and drags Stout to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

lage looking for subs off his back but Stout has passed one foot through into half guard.
Stout is thwarting lage's attempts to control the position.
Stout blocks the strikes from lage.

Stout performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Stout prevents lage from improving his position.
Stout stalling.
Stout has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Sam Stout is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sam Stout.
Well Stout has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
