The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hudson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Simpson did well to prevent Hudson getting side control. Hudson performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Let's hope that Hudson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Simpson looking for submissions off his back. Hudson wants to control but Simpson is keeping him busy. Hudson is trying to work for a kimura but Simpson is defending well.
Simpson is trying to maintain the position but Hudson is very close to passing his half guard. Simpson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Simpson works his way to full guard. Good work. Hudson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Simpson works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Hudson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Simpson, up you get! Hudson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gunner Simpson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hudson clinches up against the cage. Hudson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Simpson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Hudson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Simpson to the mat! Simpson manages to get full guard. Hudson cracks Simpson with a solid left hand. Hudson looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Simpson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Simpson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hudson is trying to maintain the position but Simpson is very close to passing his half guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Simpson trying to mount his opponent but Hudson defends it. Hudson kicks Simpson off and gets back to his feet. Simpson darts in trying to clinch and Hudson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Hudson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Simpson to stand up. Simpson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Simpson is breathing heavily. Hudson goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Hudson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Simpson as he avoids it easily. Simpson with a lazy takedown attempt and Hudson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hudson. Hudson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Simpson uses from the top position. Hudson controlling the position. Simpson throwing strikes from guard but Hudson blocks nicely. Simpson preventing the sweep. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Simpson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Simpson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hudson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hudson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hudson! Hudson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Simpson to his feet. Hudson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hudson looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Simpson throws and elbow that misses. Hudson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Simpson's guard. Nice move by Hudson! Hudson passes into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Thomas Hudson dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Hudson forces Simpson back against the cage and clinches. Hudson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Simpson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gunner Simpson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Hudson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Simpson is fending him off so far but Hudson persists. Nope, Simpson circles away and we're back to standing. Hudson shoots in for a takedown but Simpson shows good takedown defense. Simpson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Simpson lands with a nice body punch. Hudson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Simpson's guard. Simpson tries to land a sweep but no joy. Thomas Hudson has got the better of the ground game so far. Hudson tries to free his leg and advance position but Simpson is retaining full guard. Simpson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hudson trying to control the position from guard on top but Simpson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Simpson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hudson defends well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hudson lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Hudson is looking to stand up but Simpson won't let him. Hudson controls from within his opponent's guard. Hudson postures up.
Simpson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hudson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Simpson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Simpson looking to control.

Hudson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Hudson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Simpson, up you get! Hudson moves into the clinch. Hudson manages to break the clinch.

Hudson instigates a clinch. Simpson is trying to force a seperation but Hudson has the dominant position. Hudson pulls guard successfully.
Hudson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Simpson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Hudson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hudson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Simpson looking to sit in guard and control but Hudson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Hudson preventing the sweep.
That's one minute gone in the round. Simpson looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hudson has picked Simpson up and slammed him! Simpson can't keep hold of the triangle and Hudson manages to pass to side control! Hudson decides to take the fight back to the feet. Hudson avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Simpson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hudson to score an easy takedown into full guard. Hudson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Simpson is trying to keep Hudson in close.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hudson wants to pass the guard but Simpson is keeping the position. Simpson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Simpson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Simpson looking for a submission but Hudson manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Hudson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Simpson's guard. Hudson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Simpson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hudson stacks Simpson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hudson! Gunner Simpson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Hudson happy to just control the position for now. Hudson decides to take the fight back to the feet. Hudson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Simpson looking for submissions off his back.
And that's the end of the fight! Thomas Hudson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Hudson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
