Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rashawn Curry! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Shifiinity Powel! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Powel shoots in for a takedown but Curry shows good takedown defense. Curry throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Powel stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Powel pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Powel needs to keep his hands up - Curry had a free shot at his head there. Curry scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Powel tries a head kick but it misses.
Curry stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Curry wants it to stay on the feet. Curry lands a body shot.
Powel ducks right into an uppercut from Curry. Powel uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Curry. Curry lands a jab to Powel's midsection. Curry connects with the punch. Powel on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Curry bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Curry lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Curry throws a series of strikes that have Powel backpedaling.
Curry connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Curry takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Curry goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Nice straight punches there by Curry. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Curry. Powel takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
A swing and a miss from Powel. A cross from Curry lands. Powel fails with a takedown attempt. Rashawn Curry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shifiinity Powel. Powel looks gassed!
That's one minute gone in the round. Powel ducks right into an uppercut from Curry. Powel is looking to clinch. Curry is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Curry cracks Powel with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Curry is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Powel fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Curry scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Powel doesn't seem bothered though. Curry throws out a powerful jab. A punch lands to the side of Powel 's head but he takes it in his stride. Curry lands a jab to the head.
Curry scores with a decent looking hook. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Curry getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Powel is rocked! Curry drops Powel with a naaaaasty hook - Powel is in real trouble here! Curry dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!
