Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeff Bridges! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Sparks! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bridges shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sparks pinned against the cage. Sparks gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Bridges dives in and grabs Sparks's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sparks pushes down on Bridges's head and hops out. A solid leg kick lands there for Sparks.
Sparks throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bridges keeps the fight on the outside. Bridges throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sparks's waist but Sparks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bridges off to one side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeff Bridges. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sparks swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sparks misses with a body kick. Sparks lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Sparks misses with a jab, cross combination.
Sparks throws a right and a left that both miss. Sparks attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Sparks lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bridges circles away quickly and effectively.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bridges bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Sparks is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sparks can do anything to dispel that myth. Sparks gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Sparks is trying desperately to improve position. Sparks tries to lock up and control but Bridges gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bridges is trying to take his opponent's back.
Bridges trying to control but he's not successful this time. Bridges jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sparks manages to avoid the submission attempt. Sparks wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Sparks is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Bridges is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Sparks tries to improve his position but instead Bridges has taken his back! Bridges avoiding Sparks 's attempts to control his hands. Sparks manages to escape to his feet. Bridges defending well as Sparks loads up on a big left hand. Sparks takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jimmy Sparks dominated that round. That's time! Bridges's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Bridges closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sparks circles away. Bridges shoots in but Sparks avoids the takedown attempt easily. Bridges shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sparks pinned against the cage. Sparks gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeff Bridges. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sparks misses with a kick to the body.

Jimmy Sparks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sparks looks to land a combination but Bridges avoids it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bridges checks a low kick from Sparks. Sparks connects with a jab. Sparks fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sparks throws a right and a left that Bridges avoids nicely. Bridges displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sparks throws out the jab. Sparks misses with a series of wild punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sparks blocks a head kick by Bridges.
Bridges fails to land the takedown. Sparks feints and as Bridges raises his hands in defense, Sparks changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Sparks throws a strike but Bridges rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Sparks is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bridges is controlling him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sparks is wriggling around but Bridges manages to pass to half guard.
Sparks is trying to stand up here but Bridges is controlling him well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Bridges is looking to take a break and control but Sparks is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Bridges seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Sparks is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
