PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Krapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew bell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). bell has chosen fight music as his entrance music. Matthew bell will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bob Krapp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matthew bell!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Krapp tries for a takedown but bell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Krapp changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. bell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
bell tries to bench press Krapp off him but Krapp keeps the position.
Krapp is staying tight to bell's torso, preventing him from escaping.
bell is pushing Krapp's head away, looking to escape. Krapp manages to hold on to the position though.
Krapp tries to move to mount but bell blocks the move with his legs.
Krapp wants to lay and pray for a moment but bell keeps working.
bell tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
bell is not content to let Krapp control the position.
Krapp content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Krapp wants to clinch up but bell keeps it at a distance.
bell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and bell counters with a nice double leg into guard.
bell wants to control from the top but Krapp keeps moving.
bell wants to pass the guard but Krapp is keeping the position.

bell slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
bell passes Krapp's left leg - he's now in half guard.

bell moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Krapp.
Krapp tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but bell wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Krapp struggling a bit here.

bell stands up.
bell lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Bob Krapp has been cut.

Krapp tries to keep at a distance but bell has taken the fight into the clinch.
bell is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Krapp pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Krapp looking to stall.
A nice right hand lands inside from bell.
Krapp struggles to land a body shot inside as bell controls his hands.

bell has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Krapp uses from the top position.
Krapp seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Krapp trying to control but bell is working from the bottom.
bell tries to land a sweep but no joy.
bell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Krapp is holding on to half guard well.
bell is keen to just control but Krapp is a slippery customer.
Krapp wants to improve his position but bell is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



bell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Krapp is trying to improve his position.

bell decides to take the fight back to the feet.

bell shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. bell showed some decent athleticism there.
Well, if bell is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Krapp is not content to let bell control the position.
bell is stalling here. Krapp is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! bell seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Krapp has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Krapp thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Krapp working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Krapp wants to control but bell is keeping him busy.
bell defending against the ground and pound.
bell is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
bell throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
bell shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Krapp shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Krapp was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Krapp trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Krapp blocks bell's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Krapp goes for an armbar but he's not got it… bell turns into him and now he's in Krapp's guard.
bell won't allow Krapp to sweep him here.
bell trying to control the position from guard on top but Krapp is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew bell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Bob Krapp's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Krapp fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
bell throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Krapp tries to clinch up
and bell counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A combination from bell does no damage.
Krapp throws a sloppy head kick and bell moves out of range easily.

bell clinches up against the cage.

bell has hold of one of Krapp's legs. Krapp is fighting the takedown attempt but bell gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

bell is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Krapp is trying to control the position but bell postures up.

Krapp has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Krapp looking for submissions from the bottom but instead bell passes into half guard.

bell is looking for a kimura but Krapp is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for bell to get the leverage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Krapp wants to control but bell is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Krapp has hold of bell's hands but bell slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Krapp is trying to control but can't.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. bell lands a nice short elbow.
Matthew bell has got the better of the ground game so far.
bell prevents Krapp from improving his position.
bell throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
bell working over Krapp with some ground and pound. Krapp looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
bell trying to control from half guard but Krapp is working away.

Krapp is trying to get back to full guard.
Krapp slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

bell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

bell stands up and waves to Krapp to follow him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Krapp looks to clinch

and bell counters with a shoot takedown. Krapp fights it but they end up in guard.
bell trying to control the position from guard on top but Krapp is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
bell controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Krapp is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bob Krapp has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Matthew bell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Krapp is trying to control the position but bell postures up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Matthew bell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well bell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
