PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pekka Soikkeli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calico James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Soikkeli comes to the cage accompanied by Capleton - Liberation Time. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pekka Soikkeli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Calico James!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Soikkeli stops James from passing to mount.
James is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Soikkeli will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
James trying to control the position but Soikkeli is working away.

James tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Soikkeli is trying to improve his position.
James connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Soikkeli some visible discomfort.
Soikkeli sneaks back into half guard.
James winds up and cracks Soikkeli with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James is thwarting Soikkeli's attempts to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James passes to side control.
Soikkeli is not content to let James control the position.
Soikkeli tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but James wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
James throws a strike aimed at the side of Soikkeli's head but Soikkeli avoids it well.
James looks up at the clock and then as Soikkeli takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, James smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

James slows the pace down.

James tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Soikkeli tries to improve position but can't.
James trying to control the position but Soikkeli is working away.
Soikkeli takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Soikkeli takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
James wants to control for a moment but Soikkeli uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Soikkeli trying to control from half guard but James is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James tries to roll over but Soikkeli keeps him under control.
James is staying active underneath Soikkeli, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Soikkeli is thwarting James's attempts to control the position.
Soikkeli wants to lay and pray for a moment but James keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
James regains full guard. Nicely done.
James wants to sweep here but Soikkeli controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
James misses with a looping left.
James misses with a looping right.
James lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Soikkeli fails with the takedown
and James counters with a lovely shot to the body.
A big left from James misses.

James shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Soikkeli manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
James trying to control but Soikkeli is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calico James dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


James throws a hook but Soikkeli avoids it easily.
James scores with a hook.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

James breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
James bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

James changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Soikkeli looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Soikkeli struggling a bit here.
Soikkeli gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
James lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
James controlling from mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.

James working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Soikkeli tries to hold on but James postures up.
James looking to control but Soikkeli is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
James scores with a couple of good head shots there.
James unloading with bombs!
James wants to control the pace but Soikkeli is squirming around nicely.
James might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Soikkeli kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
James lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James landing strikes, looking to finish!
Soikkeli is squirming around, avoiding James's attempts to control the action.
Soikkeli taking shots to the head.
James postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Soikkeli in real trouble here! The ref calls for Soikkeli to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Calico James!
