The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yakubu throws a wild body kick that Rua sees coming a mile off.
Yakubu slips a jab from Rua.
Yakubu misses with the combination.
Yakubu looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Yakubu throws a hook but Rua blocks it.
Yakubu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rua takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Mo Yakubu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rua shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rua showed some decent athleticism there.
Yakubu is staying active underneath Rua, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Yakubu is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rua scores with a couple of nice shots.

Yakubu makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
No joy there for Yakubu, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Yakubu wants to sweep but no luck.
Rua sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Yakubu's guard.

Rua has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Yakubu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rua. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rua thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Yakubu's head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Yakubu can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rua is controlling the pace.
Rua passes to side control.
Yakubu is trying to improve his position.

Rua avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Rua gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Yakubu regains guard.

Rua thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Rua seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Rua is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Yakubu has managed to free his arm - good work.

Rua is looking for a kimura but Yakubu is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rua to get the leverage.
