Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Hoekstra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike McLeod (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike McLeod struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.8lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Eddie Hoekstra has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eddie Hoekstra! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike McLeod! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hoekstra shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. McLeod looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Hoekstra controlling from the full mount. Hoekstra has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Hoekstra's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Hoekstra really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Eddie Hoekstra just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Hoekstra fails with a takedown attempt from distance. McLeod gets caught flat footed, as Hoekstra shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Hoekstra controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Hoekstra tries to free his leg and advance position but McLeod is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hoekstra controlling from the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hoekstra stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McLeod swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hoekstra is stalling in the full guard. Hoekstra seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McLeod for as long as he can get away with. Hoekstra pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McLeod is keeping the position for now.

Hoekstra fails to land the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Hoekstra. That's going to take a lot out of him. McLeod tries to close the distance and clinch but Hoekstra swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Hoekstra drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Hoekstra is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Hoekstra drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hoekstra knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McLeod on the ground. McLeod being controlled for a moment.

McLeod looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Eddie Hoekstra just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Hoekstra ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McLeod moves away. Hoekstra feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Hoekstra seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hoekstra is pushing down on McLeod's leg trying to pass to half guard. McLeod is fighting to maintain full guard but Hoekstra has managed to sneak the leg through. Hoekstra controlling the action here. Eddie Hoekstra overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hoekstra works his way into side control. Hoekstra slows the pace down.

A lull in the action here. McLeod is looking to regain half guard here but Hoekstra keeps moving and retains side control. Hoekstra will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

McLeod tries to clinch but Hoekstra moves out of range. Hoekstra tries a low kick but McLeod avoids it. Hoekstra looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for McLeod! Hoekstra sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. McLeod is desperately trying to improve his position but Hoekstra has a good base and remains in mount. Hoekstra looking to control and managing it successfully. McLeod takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Horrible takedown by Hoekstra or perhaps it was just good defense by McLeod which made him look bad. A big left from McLeod misses. Hoekstra throws a hook to the side of McLeod's head but McLeod sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Hoekstra fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McLeod, pushing him back against the cage. Hoekstra wants a takedown.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Eddie Hoekstra just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Hoekstra closes the distance and clinches up with McLeod, looking for a takedown. Hoekstra pushes McLeod against the cage but McLeod circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Hoekstra. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hoekstra sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed McLeod's guard. Hoekstra seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Hoekstra prevents McLeod from improving his position. McLeod is trying to control but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McLeod is looking for a sweep. Hoekstra is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Hoekstra controlling the action here. Hoekstra is thwarting McLeod's attempts to control the position. Hoekstra wants to pass the guard but McLeod is defending well. Mike McLeod has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Eddie Hoekstra is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hoekstra throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. McLeod was covering up waiting for the punch and Hoekstra finishes the takedown easily into guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Eddie Hoekstra showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hoekstra, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
