PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ross Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bryan Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martin comes to the cage accompanied by The Kill from 30 Seconds to Mars. Ross Martin has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ross Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bryan Baker!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baker closes the distance and clinches.

Baker manages to pull guard.

Baker pushes Martin off and scrambles back to his feet.
Martin throws a sloppy head kick and Baker moves out of range easily.

Baker shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Martin is trying to defend but Baker finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Martin wants to control but Baker is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Martin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Baker is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Martin looking for submissions off his back.

Baker is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Martin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Baker.
Martin regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Baker.

Martin trying to keep a closed guard but Baker is proving a slippery customer.

Baker drops back looking for a leg! Martin is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Martin manages to kick Baker off! Baker jumps back into Martin's guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Baker closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Martin wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Baker working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Baker tries for a kimura but Martin is defending well.

Martin wants to get back to his feet but Baker drags him back down.

Baker is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Martin knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Baker goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Martin has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Baker but great work by Martin.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Baker regains full guard. Nicely done.
Martin is breathing heavily.
Martin won't allow Baker to sweep him here.
Baker is trying to control the position but Martin postures up.
Baker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Baker trying to advance position but Martin counters by regaining guard.

Martin has his foot on Baker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Baker works his way back into a safe position though.
Baker throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Baker postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Martin is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Baker, into his guard.

Baker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bryan Baker dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Martin throws a big shot that misses.

Baker rushes Martin and presses him up against the cage.
Martin tries to circle away but Baker has him pinned against the cage.

Baker pulls guard.
Baker manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Martin manages to get himself to full guard.
Martin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Martin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Baker advances position into side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Baker is looking to take a break and control but Martin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Baker is trying to get an arm triangle but Martin is defending well.

Baker is working to tighten is grip on Martin's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Martin has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Baker is really squeezing tight and eventually Martin passes out! Baker breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
