PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fransje DuVal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Rich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fransje DuVal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Rich!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Wagner Zegers and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DuVal shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rich as he avoids it easily.
DuVal throws a head kick that misses.

Rich shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches DuVal napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Rich in side control, throwing shots but DuVal defends.
Rich working away.
DuVal has one of Rich's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
DuVal sneaks back into half guard.
Rich throwing shots but DuVal is blocking nicely.
DuVal wants to control but Rich is keeping busy.
DuVal moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

DuVal wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Rich trying to control but DuVal is working from the bottom.

Rich stands up from DuVal's guard - Rich perhaps looking for a knockout.
DuVal tries for a takedown but Rich circles away easily

and Rich decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in DuVal's guard.
Rich slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
DuVal keeping moving, preventing Rich from controlling successfully.

DuVal is working an open guard so Rich takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
DuVal shoots and misses

and Rich counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fransje DuVal. That's going to take a lot out of him.
DuVal is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rich gets to his feet - DuVal follows without any prompting.

and Rich counters by clinching up.

Rich breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Rich counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
DuVal can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rich controls the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rich chips away with some ground and pound.

Rich gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Rich connects with a solid leg kick.
Rich dodges the punch combination from DuVal.

Rich shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Rich frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

DuVal manages to regain half guard. Good work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

DuVal clinches.

Rich decides to pull guard.
DuVal won't allow Rich to get back to his feet.
Rich is trying to control the position but DuVal postures up.
DuVal postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Joe Rich has got the better of the ground game so far.
DuVal wants to control from the top but Rich keeps moving.
DuVal is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rich is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rich throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rich is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

DuVal trying to control from the bottom.
DuVal is not content to let Rich control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rich seems to be working for a kimura but DuVal defends the submission attempt.
DuVal is looking for a sweep. Rich is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rich throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

DuVal is not content to let Rich control the position.
DuVal trying to control but Rich postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Rich changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. DuVal looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
DuVal struggling a bit here.
DuVal is looking to reverse the position.
Rich is looking to take a break and control but DuVal is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
DuVal is trying to improve his position.

Rich decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Rich shoots in for a takedown but DuVal shows good takedown defense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

DuVal looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rich!
Rich is trying to escape the mount.
DuVal punishing his opponent with strikes.
Rich is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Rich wants to control but DuVal is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
DuVal wants to control the pace but Rich is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Joe Rich will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Rich darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
DuVal is trying to control but can't.
Rich throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
DuVal moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Rich showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Rich stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. DuVal swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rich stays in close to DuVal's body and controls the position.
DuVal has his hands on Rich's head, controlling the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rich accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
DuVal looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rich loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rich lands a couple of elbows.
Rich trying to control the position from guard on top but DuVal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rich shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Rich wants to pass the guard but DuVal is keeping the position.
Rich is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Rich postures up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Rich comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rich has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
