Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mason Sutherland! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenny Purcell! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sutherland scores a takedown into full mount! Sutherland looking to ground and pound but Purcell is blocking nicely. Purcell wants to control but Sutherland is having none of it. Sutherland lands a big elbow. Purcell sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Sutherland not landing any meaningful shots this time. Purcell trying to hold on to Sutherland's head to control him but Sutherland postures up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Purcell can do anything to dispel that myth. Purcell keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Sutherland is looking for a kimura but Purcell is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sutherland to get the leverage. Purcell is trying to get back to full guard. Sutherland passes into side control, despite Purcell's attempt to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round. Sutherland tries to score with some ground and pound. Purcell controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sutherland tries to clinch but Purcell is having none of it. Purcell scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Purcell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sutherland. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sutherland looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Sutherland wants to improve his position but Purcell is controlling well.
Purcell is taking a breather. Sutherland says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sutherland is staying active underneath Purcell, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Purcell wants to free his trapped foot but Sutherland is holding on for dear life with his legs. Sutherland wants to improve his position but Purcell is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Purcell scoring with strikes to the body and head. Purcell is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Purcell clinches but Sutherland breaks the clinch and Sutherland counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Purcell's guard now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Purcell is pulling down on Sutherland's head. It's preventing any offense from Sutherland, at least for the moment. Sutherland stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Purcell swivels though and keeps the full guard. Sutherland is breathing heavily. Purcell wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Sutherland postures up.
Sutherland drops back, looking for a kneebar! Purcell looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Purcell looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Purcell!
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Purcell tries to advance to mount but Sutherland denies him. Purcell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sutherland keeps working. Purcell controlling the position. Purcell has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mason Sutherland dominated that round. That's time! Sutherland's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Purcell throws a nice looking combination but Sutherland bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Mason Sutherland is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Sutherland has his takedown stuffed and Purcell counters with a shoot takedown. Sutherland fights it but they end up in guard. Purcell scoring with punches to the head and body. Purcell wants to stand and escape but instead Sutherland has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Sutherland postures up.
Sutherland throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Purcell lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sutherland! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Sutherland is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Purcell can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sutherland is looking to escape. Sutherland is working to get back to half guard.
Purcell sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Purcell looking to finish Sutherland with some ground and pound. This is bad for Sutherland!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Purcell with shots to the head and body - Sutherland looks very uncomfortable down there. Purcell lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Kenny Purcell has got the better of the ground game so far. Purcell connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Purcell tries to control but Sutherland wriggling away. Purcell tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Sutherland takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Purcell trying to control but he's not successful this time. Purcell landing punches. Purcell lands a heavy elbow. Purcell trying to control but Sutherland is having none of it.
Despite being in the dominant position, Kenny Purcell just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Purcell shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Purcell was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Kenny Purcell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Purcell lands a jab-cross combination. Purcell throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Purcell pushes Sutherland up against the cage in a clinch. Sutherland tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Purcell smiles and moves away.
Purcell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Sutherland gets caught flat footed, as Purcell shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Sutherland tries to land a sweep but no joy. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Purcell trying to control but Sutherland is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Purcell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Sutherland gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Purcell counters with a takedown into side control. Purcell stands up and we're back to a striking position. Purcell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Purcell wants to pass the guard but Sutherland is defending well. Purcell content to control rather than advance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Sutherland manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Purcell slips nicely into half guard. Purcell wants to free his trapped foot but Sutherland is holding on for dear life with his legs. Purcell content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sutherland tries to roll over but Purcell keeps him under control. Purcell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sutherland keeps working. Sutherland wants to improve his position but Purcell is controlling well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Purcell performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Purcell looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Sutherland is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that's the end of the fight! Kenny Purcell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Purcell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
