Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Junior Maia! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Silva! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva lands a head kick. Maia smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
It looks like Junior Maia has been cut. Some wild striking there from Maia.
Silva pushes Maia up against the cage in a clinch. Silva's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Silva escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Maia throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Silva. Maia throws a sloppy head kick and Silva moves out of range easily. Silva looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Silva missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Still in half guard, Silva seems content to control. Let's hope that Silva has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Maia has managed to free his arm - good work. Silva is trying to control the action in half guard but Maia is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Silva wants to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. A head kick by Maia misses and Silva counters with a nice double leg into side control. Maia won't be happy with that. Silva working the head and body with strikes. Silva swings around for an armbar but Maia sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Silva's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Silva seems keen to control Maia's posture. Silva looking for a sweep. Not yet Silva, not yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Antonio Silva dominated that round. The cut man is working on Junior Maia's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Maia throws a sloppy head kick and Silva counters with a solid body kick. Maia throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Maia misses with a jab, cross combination.
Silva moves in looking to clinch but Maia pushes him off. Maia misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Silva shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Maia wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Silva.
Silva looking to secure an arm triangle but Maia defends it well. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Silva throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Maia because Silva loaded up on that one.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Silva lands a nice shot to the head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Maia's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Silva controlling his opponent. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Silva with shots to the head and body - Maia looks very uncomfortable down there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva is landing with some decent strikes but Maia is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Silva working for a submission but Maia is keeping him at bay. Maia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Silva on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Silva is standing up, even though he is in mount. Silva looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Maia! Maia in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Antonio Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Junior Maia's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Maia defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Silva. Silva swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Silva wants to clinch up but Maia keeps it at a distance. Silva drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Silva gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Maia misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Silva misses with a takedown attempt - Maia sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Silva fails in his attempt to clinch. The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Silva takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Silva shoots for a takedown but Maia saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Junior Maia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Silva. Silva is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Maia. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Maia has taken the fight to the clinch.

Maia wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maia breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Silva throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Silva tries to clinch up. Maia throws a sloppy head kick and Silva counters with a nice low kick that buckles Maia's knee momentarily. Maia throws a series of punches but Silva moves out of range. Junior Maia is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Maia throws a lazy head kick enabling Silva to counter with a crisp jab. Some wild striking there from Maia.
Silva has managed to clinch.
Silva turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Silva manages to end up in side control. Maia avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Silva. Maia is trying to get back to his feet. Antonio Silva is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva decides to take the fight back to the feet. Silva wants to clinch up but Maia keeps it at a distance. Silva lands with a slapping head kick. Silva feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Maia's calf. Silva drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Silva happy to just control the position for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Junior Maia has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Silva decides to stand back up. Silva connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Silva is looking to take this fight into the clinch. A head kick by Maia misses and Silva counters with a good low kick that Maia was not able to check. Maia takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Maia gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Silva to score an easy takedown into full guard. Silva passes Maia's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Antonio Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
