Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eugene Mean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clayton John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eugene Mean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Clayton John!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Columbo Gatti and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mean drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mean looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Mean seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down John for as long as he can get away with.

John had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Mean is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. John Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Mean's back instead.
Mean trying to control the position but John manages to sink in the hooks.
Mean avoids the strikes from John.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mean tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Mean holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as John tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
John misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Mean wants to control but John is having none of it.

John goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Mean is on top in guard.
John is trying to control the position but Mean postures up.

John has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mean is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
John is trying to control the position but Mean postures up.

John has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mean can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
John controls Mean momentarily but Mean frees himself.
Mean stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. John swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Eugene Mean just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Mean shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. John is trying to defend but Mean finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

John is looking for a sweep. Mean is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's time! Mean's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


John stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and John wants it to stay on the feet.

Mean closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. John did well to prevent Mean getting side control.
John is looking for a sweep. Mean is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
John moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Mean is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

John has his foot on Mean's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mean works his way back into a safe position though.

John lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Mean needs to keep his hands up - John had a free shot at his head there.
John smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
John scores with a crisp jab that stopped Mean in his tracks.
Mean shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts John as he jumps to the side.
John scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
John throws a combination. Mean tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
John goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Mean misses with a takedown attempt - John sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
John connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
John lands a head shot.
John lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
A left and a right from John both land. Nice combination.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mean takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Mean has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
John lands a with a good body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clayton John showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


John moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Mean takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Mean takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Mean gets cracked there but stands up to it.


Mean is rocked!
Mean shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts John as he jumps to the side.
Mean throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around John's waist but John gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mean off to one side.
John bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
John works over Mean's head and body with a nice combination.
John throws a shot to the body.
Mean takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
John connects with the punch.
Oh Mean is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
John connects with a single shot there.
Mean looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Mean takes one to the side of the head.
Clayton John seems to be getting the better of the standup.
John lands a nice looking body shot.
John connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mean momentarily.
Eugene Mean seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mean tries to move into range but John moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
John scores with a decent looking hook.
John clobbers Mean with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Mean with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling John to score with a decent uppercut.
Mean takes one to the chin there.
A decent looking cross lands there for John.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A left and a right from John both land. Nice combination.
John connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Mean tumbling to the canvas! John pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Mean was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:10 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Clayton John!
