PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Abker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abker has chosen I Get Around from Tupac as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brandon Carwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brian Abker!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abker shoots for a double leg takedown but Carwin sprawls well. He's pushed Abker's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Abker wants to clinch.
Carwin moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Abker fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Abker moves in looking to clinch but Carwin pushes him off.
Nice sprawl there from Carwin as Abker shoots in.
Brandon Carwin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Abker.

Carwin shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Carwin is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Abker wants to control but Carwin is keeping busy.
Abker is not content to let Carwin control the position.
Abker trying to control here.
Carwin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Abker keeps working.
Abker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carwin is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carwin slips a nice elbow through Abker's hands, connecting with Abker's forehead.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Abker takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Carwin with a poor takedown

and Abker decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Carwin's guard.
Carwin being controlled here, momentarily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Abker accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Abker trying to control the position from guard on top but Carwin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Abker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carwin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Carwin looking for a guillotine here but Abker defends easily.
Carwin is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Abker wants to control from the top but Carwin keeps moving.
Abker loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Abker stands and steps away. Carwin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Carwin leaves Abker with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Carwin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Abker misses with a takedown
and Carwin counters with a two punch combo.
Abker closes the distance and clinches up with Carwin, looking for a takedown. Abker pushes Carwin against the cage but Carwin circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Carwin gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Abker jumps guard but Carwin stands there with Abker around his waist. Abker gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Abker tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Carwin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Abker fails to pull guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brandon Carwin will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Carwin tries to close the distance and clinch but Abker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Carwin tries to clinch up but Abker circles away and keeps his distance.

Abker shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Abker showed some decent athleticism there.
Abker trying to control the pace.

Abker seems to be working for a kimura but Carwin defends the submission attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Abker is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Carwin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Abker.
Carwin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Abker is working away from the top position though.

Abker seems to be working for a kimura but Carwin defends the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Carwin is trying to stand up here but Abker is controlling him well.
Abker content to control rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carwin is trying to stand back up but Abker is controlling him
Abker takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Carwin is refusing to be controlled, as Abker sits in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Abker seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Carwin is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Brian Abker!
