Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paco Nykanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Piotr Karpinov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nykanen comes to the cage accompanied by Jeff Mills - The Bells. Piotr Karpinov is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Piotr Karpinov! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksandr Martynov and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nykanen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Karpinov to the mat! Karpinov manages to get full guard. Karpinov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nykanen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Nykanen is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Karpinov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nykanen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nykanen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Nykanen working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Karpinov's head. Karpinov working for a triangle but Nykanen defends it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. Karpinov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nykanen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nykanen pushing down on Karpinov's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nykanen connects with a nice short shot to Karpinov's temple. That's four minutes gone in the round. Nykanen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Nykanen takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Karpinov looks like he's trying to stand up.

Karpinov tries to close the distance and clinch but Nykanen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Nykanen lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Karpinov or not. Nykanen stalls. Karpinov is breathing heavily. With the fighters up against the cage, Karpinov throws an elbow but misses.

Nykanen works on Karpinov's body with a couple of short punches. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Nykanen creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Nykanen lands a hook that snaps the head of Karpinov backwards. Nykanen digs a right hand into Karpinov's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Karpinov's gas tank. Karpinov managing to block the knees to the body from Nykanen.

Nykanen has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Karpinov is trying to keep an underhook but Nykanen manages to get the takedown into half guard. Nykanen slips a nice elbow through Karpinov's hands, connecting with Karpinov's forehead. Nykanen landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Nykanen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. This has been an exciting period of action! Nykanen scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Nykanen scoring with strikes to the body and head. Nykanen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Karpinov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Karpinov wants to improve his position but Nykanen is controlling well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nykanen is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Nykanen controlling the action here. Nykanen wants to take a breather but Karpinov is having none of it. Nykanen is looking for a kimura here.
Nykanen wants to work for an arm triangle but Karpinov is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Karpinov has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Nykanen. Oh but Karpinov has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Nykanen goes limp - he's gone! Karpinov jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
