The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis wants to clinch.
Cruz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Davis circles away quickly and effectively.
Jab, jab by Davis - just one landing.
Davis fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Davis takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Cruz lands with a nice combination. Davis backs away looking to recover.
Davis is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Cruz lands with a nice body kick.
Cruz pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Cruz throws a shot to the body.
Cruz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Davis is looking to improve his position.

Cruz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Cruz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Davis swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cruz counters with a left and a right that stings Davis.

and Cruz counters with a head kick.
Cruz moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Kaleo Cruz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cruz misses with a jab, cross combination.
Davis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Davis is breathing heavily.
Davis throws a big shot that misses.
Davis darts in trying to clinch
and Cruz counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cruz drops back looking for a leg! Davis is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Davis manages to kick Cruz off! Cruz jumps back into Davis's guard.
Cruz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Davis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cruz has managed to get both his arms back between Davis's legs - danger averted.
Cruz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Davis's guard.
Davis looking for submissions off his back.
Davis is not content to let Cruz control the position.
Cruz stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Davis to get to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
A punch combination from Cruz misses.
Cruz throws a series of punches but Davis moves out of range.
Davis looks to land a combination but Cruz avoids it well.
Cruz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Davis counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cruz won't be happy with that.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Davis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cruz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Cruz is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Davis is controlling him well.
Cruz on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cruz is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Davis asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Davis blocks the strikes from Cruz.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Davis scores with a hook.
Cruz keeps the fight on the outside.
Cruz takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Davis wants to clinch but Cruz slips to the side
and Cruz counters with a nice kick to the body.
Davis doesn't manage to clinch there - Cruz circles away.
Cruz throws a right and a left that both miss.
Davis wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Davis throws a good cross that connects.
Cruz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Davis moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kaleo Cruz dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Davis misses with a wild combination.
Davis shoots in but no luck this time.
Cruz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Davis looks for a takedown but Cruz sprawls well.
Davis lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Some wild striking there from Cruz.
Cruz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Cruz throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Cruz trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Cruz wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Davis's closed guard. He's half up but Davis has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Davis pivots and extends the arm, Cruz falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Davis! Well done that man!
