PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Leroy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ciccio Barrese (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leroy comes to the cage accompanied by renegade. Ciccio Barrese has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Chris Leroy's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Leroy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ciccio Barrese!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Eddie Farnsworth and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leroy shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Barrese as he jumps to the side.
Barrese connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Leroy's hands.
Barrese tries for a takedown but Leroy circles away easily

and Leroy counters with a nice double leg into side control. Barrese won't be happy with that.

Leroy is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Barrese has escaped the position, nice work there.
Barrese is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Barrese being controlled for a moment.
Leroy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Barrese wants to get back to his feet.

Leroy working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Leroy looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Barrese is trying to get back to half guard.
Leroy advances to full mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Leroy wants to control the pace but Barrese is squirming around nicely.
Barrese is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Leroy looking to control and managing it successfully.
Leroy blocks Barrese's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Leroy content just to control the position here.
Barrese has decided that throwing punches whilst being mounted is the best he can manage just now.

Barrese wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Barrese is trying to escape the mount.
Leroy tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leroy works his way to his opponent's back.

Leroy is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Barrese defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Leroy is breathing heavily.

Leroy is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Barrese knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Barrese for a finish.

Leroy is trying to control but Barrese is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
Barrese manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Leroy trying to pass the guard but Barrese defending well.
Barrese pushes Leroy off looking to stand but Leroy dives back in and keeps control.
Barrese is looking to control Leroy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Barrese avoid being mounted?
Well, if Leroy is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Leroy dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Barrese closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Barrese lands in his opponent's guard.

Leroy is looking for a triangle here but Barrese uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Barrese stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Barrese gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Leroy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Barrese keeping moving, preventing Leroy from controlling successfully.
Leroy looking to sit in guard and control but Barrese gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Barrese pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Leroy is keeping the position for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Barrese wants to control from the top but Leroy keeps moving.

Leroy has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Barrese should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Leroy has tightened it up now! Barrese should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Chris Leroy!
