Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roger Schovit! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Thomson! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schovit avoids a punch combination nicely.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Schovit. Schovit misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Thomson clinches up with Schovit and pushes him back against the cage. Thomson can't break the clinch.
Thomson breaks from the clinch.
Thomson throws a right hand that Schovit ducks under and follows up with a left that Schovit also avoids with ease. Schovit fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roger Schovit. That's going to take a lot out of him. Schovit tries to clinch there but Thomson circles away.
Schovit shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Schovit showed some decent athleticism there. Thomson wants to improve his position but Schovit is controlling well.
Schovit winds up and cracks Thomson with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Schovit landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thomson can do anything to dispel that myth. Thomson is looking to improve his position.
Thomson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Thomson looks gassed!
That's one minute gone in the round. Schovit postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Schovit accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Thomson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Schovit. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Schovit pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Thomson is keeping the position for now. Schovit is looking to work some ground and pound but Thomson has wrist control. Schovit will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Schovit stands up from guard. Let's bang! Thomson tries to clinch but Schovit moves out of range. Thomson misses with a double jab.
Schovit closes this distance looking for a takedown but Thomson circles away. Schovit tries to clinch up and Thomson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Schovit has his takedown stuffed and Thomson counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Thomson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Schovit takes the fight into the clinch. Schovit gets a trip takedown into half guard. Schovit is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nice strikes from Schovit there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thomson is not content to let Schovit control the position. Schovit passes the guard and advances to mount! Schovit is landing with some decent strikes but Thomson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Thomson taking shots to the head. Schovit scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Thomson?
Thomson is rocked! Schovit with good strikes from the mount here! Thomson is still in real trouble! Can Schovit finish him? Thomson really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Thomson tries to improve his position but Schovit has taken his back! Schovit has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Thomson tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Schovit Pushes Thomson away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
