PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tony McCowan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roidger Palmeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCowan kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Two Weeks. Palmeiro comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Bully kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Palmeiro bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
McCowan struggling a bit here.

Palmeiro stands up.
Palmeiro tries to clinch there but McCowan circles away.
McCowan looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Palmeiro shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Palmeiro seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McCowan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
McCowan tries to get to full guard but Palmeiro has control of the leg.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCowan tries to kick Palmeiro off but Palmeiro keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
McCowan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Palmeiro on the ground.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
McCowan throws a head kick that misses.
McCowan pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
McCowan throws a right and a left that both miss.
Decent striking displayed by Palmeiro there.
McCowan has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Palmeiro finds it's way round the side to connect with McCowan's head.
Palmeiro fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
McCowan throws a hook but Palmeiro avoids it easily.
McCowan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Palmeiro as he jumps to the side.

and McCowan holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
McCowan tries to pull guard but Palmeiro won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony McCowan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Palmeiro wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but McCowan has him pressed against the cage.

McCowan pulls guard successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Palmeiro tries to free his leg and advance position but McCowan is retaining full guard.
Palmeiro stands and throws McCowan's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Palmeiro tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Palmeiro is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. McCowan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Palmeiro is looking to advance position but McCowan won't allow it.

McCowan throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McCowan dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Palmeiro. That did some damage!
McCowan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Palmeiro.
McCowan circles away from the clinch attempt.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Palmeiro fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Palmeiro controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Palmeiro decides to stand back up.
Palmeiro clinches but McCowan breaks the clinch
and McCowan counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
McCowan tries for a takedown but Palmeiro sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Palmeiro tries to clinch up but McCowan circles away and keeps his distance.
A left and a right from Palmeiro both land. Nice combination.
Palmeiro will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Palmeiro fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! McCowan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
