PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jakie Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shige Takazaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jakie Chan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Shige Takazaki!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Takazaki sprawls well initially but Chan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Takazaki looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Chan lands strikes from half guard.
Well, if Chan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Chan is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Chan content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Chan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Chan wants to take a breather but Takazaki is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chan seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Chan passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Takazaki!
Chan connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Chan prevents Takazaki from getting the reversal.
Chan tries to control but Takazaki wriggling away.
Takazaki tries to lock up and control but Chan gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Chan controlling the position easily from mount.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jakie Chan just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Takazaki throws a series of punches but Chan moves out of range.
Shige Takazaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Chan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Chan lands in his opponent's guard.
Chan content to stall in guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chan looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Takazaki trying to keep a closed guard but Chan is proving a slippery customer.
Chan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Chan is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Chan passes into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Chan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Takazaki is looking to improve his position.

Takazaki actively working from the bottom here.

Chan is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Takazaki has managed to free his arm - good work.
Chan wants to control but Takazaki is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jakie Chan dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Chan has taken the fight to the clinch.

Chan has picked Takazaki up - he's going for a ride! Chan dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Takazaki is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Chan's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Chan's back!
Chan prevents Takazaki from getting a body triangle.
Chan manages to reverse the position and now he's in Takazaki's guard. Nice work there by Chan.

Chan stands up from Takazaki's guard - Chan perhaps looking for a knockout.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Chan.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chan clinches.

Chan jumps guard and drags Takazaki to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Chan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Chan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Takazaki manages to get himself to full guard.

Takazaki is looking for a triangle but Chan pushes his legs off easily.
Takazaki trying to keep a closed guard but Chan is proving a slippery customer.

Takazaki is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Chan is aware though and is defending well.
Chan trying to control but Takazaki is working from the bottom.
Chan with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Chan trying to control the position from guard on top but Takazaki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Chan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
A head kick from Chan lands but Takazaki takes it in his stride.

Takazaki shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Chan's guard.
Chan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Takazaki trying to control the position from guard on top but Chan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chan has control of Takazaki's left arm, preventing Takazaki from doing any damage.
Takazaki is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Takazaki drops back, looking for a kneebar! Chan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Chan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Chan!

Chan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Chan fails with the takedown

and Takazaki counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Takazaki trying to control but Chan is working from the bottom.
Takazaki might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Chan kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Takazaki postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Chan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Takazaki, into his guard.
Chan tries to free his leg and advance position but Takazaki is retaining full guard.
Takazaki is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Chan is stalling in the full guard.

Chan stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jakie Chan dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Takazaki shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Chan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Chan.

Chan drags the fight down to the ground.
Chan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Chan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Takazaki!
Takazaki has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Takazaki is trying to get back to his feet but Chan has full control of the position and if anything, Takazaki has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Chan just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Chan scores with strikes from the back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Takazaki looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Chan is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Chan loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Takazaki hold on?

Chan is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Chan gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Takazaki is trying to break free.
Takazaki has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.

Chan is looking for the choke from the back position but Takazaki is controlling his hands well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Takazaki fending off the submission attempt from Chan.
Chan has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Takazaki.
Chan slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Takazaki wants to control his opponent's hands but Chan gets his hands free.

Chan working for a choke but Takazaki reverses nicely into Chan 's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Takazaki has gone for a leg lock! Chan slips out almost immediately though and dives into Takazaki's guard.
Takazaki has control of Chan's left arm, preventing Chan from doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jakie Chan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
